Because we live in a smaller market—there are many brands that just aren’t available close to home—my husband and I like to visit ADs when we travel so we can see more little wonders in the metal. Sometimes we take a short flight out of town to do just that.
On one such occasion, we took a quick flight and visited our nearest A. Lange & Söhne boutique. Never in a million years would I have guessed I would walk out with one. As luck would have it, they had a few watches that were available (3 or 4), and one of them was this 35mm Saxonia. I fell in love with it immediately.
With most of the movement hidden by the 3/4 plate, the balance cock is on full display like a bejeweled crown. And while the hand engraving is a sight to behold, the part that catches my breath is the balance wheel. There’s a thrum to it that is unmatched by the balance wheels I’ve seen with other watchmakers. The only way to describe its movement is to compare it to a hummingbird. A little humming bird living in the heart of the watch.

Love the pictures you provided!! Thank you for always paying #TheLangeTax I need to start taking more trips to bigger cities with boutiques like this one. I suffer from the same issue you do, small city with no haute horlogerie brands. Nashville has been my best option for day trips by car. If I take a plane, I could easily visit NYC, Miami or LA. Chicago just closed their Lange boutique which would’ve been my closest one

NYC flagship Lange boutique isn’t a bad second option ;)
We do have ADs for Patek, Cartier, Omega, IWC and a couple others. Las Vegas and Scottsdale are our closest large markets for most other brands.
Vegas is great for luxury brand ADs, but so far I have not been able to find any good used/vintage watch stores. In my opinion those are the best, there is so much joy from trying to find a hidden gem.
