Watch Journey so far

Image

Started properly into watches about 5 or 6 years ago.

Image

The Christopher Ward Slimline was my first mechanical watch. Rarely wear it as I find it too big but youbalways remember your first.

The Rado Florence was my late dad's watch which i stopped on the date and time of his death.

Image

The GS SBGN005 is my wedding watch. The one watch i baby beyond mesure (my wife knows not to hold my hand when wearing it). Has lost about 5 secs in 1 ½ years of ownership.

Image

The Seiko Alpinist is my 'when it rains or the going gets tough' watch.

Image

My two oldtimers the King Seiko KS 45-7000 hi beat. Amazing to look at and has preserved all the sharpness in the case.

The Omega Geneve 135.041 is a fantastic vintage piece, close to mint when I bought it. Had it sent to omega to redo the gaskets as its humid where i live. My most comfortable wear by far.

My journey so far has taught me...

It's an expensive hobby. I bought a lot by going for budget options (had an skx, a orient mako, victorinox infantry) but then i trimmed downed and focussed only on my mainstay wedding watch and now only adding vintage pieces as i like the fit and quality (and history of some)

Exhibition casebacks were a must for me before. But now in retrospect, watching a movement thats machine decorated or non decorated is pointless anyway. I did put one on the king seiko. It is after all a hand made movement and is a joy to look at.

I am more and more drawn to smaller watches. Ok I have puny wrists, but the comfort...my gs is 39 and is the most I'll go to now. Also why vintage is my top priority now.

The look of the watch changes drastically with straps. Get a good quality strap and you have a whole new watch.

Thanks for welcoming me to the group ♥️

Indy watches is the way to go imho

It’s great that you can describe your collection with clarity. Everything there seems to have a reason.

It’s a shame you don’t wear the CW slimline. I recently sold a 41 Tudor 1926 because it felt too big for a dress watch (and also my wrist disagreed with the bracelet).

·

Whoa what a collection and each piece has a story behind it. One day I hope to trim down my collection to something more manageable, but alas, that is not today.

·

You've got some great watches, and I love the reasoning behind your choices.

·

Lovely collection, journey, insights and photos. The Rado touched me deeply. Very happy you joined, as you are among friends here🤙❤️🤙

·

Welcome. I love your collection and the fact each watch is so meaningful to you! That is just wonderful

·

That SBGN005 is one helluva watch.

I’ve got the 003 and it lost 1 sec in half a year until time adjustment.

Fantastic piece!

I was actually thinking of a farer 36mm as a next watch, but would be redundant as long as i have the alpinist (which I'm trying to offload but hard to sell in Mauritius where i live)!

If i manage to get it off my hands, will look at independent microbrands, unless i find another vintage treasure 😅😂

Yeah it's annoying now. Used to wear the crap out of it and still love that sunray blue, but since i got into vintage pieces, the feel on wrist is just something else

Hahaha i know... i actually added a new watch (still in shipping). Still with the vintage vibe, still a small case. Not really a piece of history but the movement pictures really got me.

Fantastic piece!

It's actually my most 'unproductive' watch. Each time i wear it... i spend most myvtime looking, polishing and taking pictures. Was also supposed to be worn as my 'business' watch 😅😅🤣🤣

Awaiting my next watch, my final watch (yeah lol), another vintage piece. I love strap changing but i want a watch which pairs with the attire. Have the ks on a black, the omega on a light brown. Now the longines on a dark brown. Should be set for life (😂😂)

Mate, we‘re in the same boat there 😅

Nice story, each watch should have some meaning at least. My last luxury watch purchase was before all these hype went overblown, and I dont pay over retail, moreso at these inflated prices. Brand and exclusivity are just marketing gimmicks anyway, a watch is still just a watch
