Stopped by an AD for a little fun

The wife and I were out and we "accidentally" found ourselves in an AD ... Oops... Here are a few we liked. The salesman was great and we had a great conversation. He knew there was not a chance of us buying anything but still gave us excellent treatment. My wife's favorite was the teal auqa terra BTW. Sorry for the terrible pictures.

The 40mm explorer really got me. As soon as I put it on I thought yeah that's my watch. Also, the pelagos really surprised me. I like Tudor but nothing of theirs has really knocked my socks off. Well my socks are now gone. Unfortunately, both are but a dream for now. Maybe I can pick one up when I retire in 40 years 😂

Both of those are beautiful pieces.

This is great. The sneering Rolex AD stereotype couldn't be further from the truth in my experience too.

I was pleasantly surprised. I asked him about the whole wait list thing and he was very honest. He said if I wanted a GMT master ii, yeah it might be a while, but the explorer could be as little as 2 months and no more than 6 months. No BS about buying other items first either.

Nice pictures! Thanks for posting.

i still get really nervous to try on premium brand watches at the ad 😂

·

All really great watches. Nice to get hands on 👍

What an awsome place to shop for watches! I’ve never seen an AD with such variety of high end stuff.

It's C.D Peacock. They are one of the largest and most high end jewelers in Chicago. Fun fact they are the oldest business in Chicago. Since 1837.

I said the same thing after trying on the 40mm Explorer, and 3 days later (with a lot of luck) I added one to the collection. Wearing it today as a matter of fact!

Love it! Dare I say it's my grail watch?

Dare. I have to say, it’s superb. I honestly didn’t have the Explorer on my radar, but when I tried it on it was just a perfect fit. Much more of a connection than I could have anticipated. I lucked out on that trip to Vegas and came home with the watch. It gets a ton of wrist time.

Here’s to going there is one in your future too!

I'm just curious. It looks like you are from Illinois. Maybe you went to the same store. There is an AD in Oak Brook Mall. I was there last October. And my experience was very similar. The sales guy was very pleasant. We probably talked for close to an hour. He showed me watches from different brands, let me try them on, showed me their service shop, let me talk to the watchmaker there. And that is after I told him that I was not in a position to buy at that time.

Also, the same story about getting a Rolex. He said some basic models are possible to get faster.

I was at the Woodfield location. I was told the oak brook location is getting a huge face-lift and will be a legit Rolex boutique.

As a former salesperson, they simply hope one will spark you into a purchase. They would not be there if it was not for work. Hope the store was empty other than you guys.

You are absolutely right. They are running a business and the salesman is looking for his commission. Not fulfilling a watch nerd's dreams. It's a point we all should remember. We enthusiasts are such a small segment of the watch world but I will say I do enjoy some great customer service. Again, you have a very valid point. Cheers
