A lesser-known Space-inspired watch - the Slava Buran

As you can tell from the dial, this one was made as a tribute to the space shuttle.

But not the one you think, it’s Buran, the soviet version of the reusable spacecraft of the 80’s.

Buran only flew once, but it landed automatically (something the other shuttle could not do).

I know little about the watch, except that it was made between 1988 and 1991. The dial is 36mm in diameter (crown excluded) and the strap width is 18mm.

My watch is in pretty good shape, except for the crown that lost parts of its shiny plating.

It’s a fairly rudimentary movement, with about 20h of reserve, and there is no quick set for the date. It was set on the 13 when I got it. I had to move the minutes hand enough to get to today (1 March). And no, it can’t go in reverse.

Oh, and I think the strap is original, as it bears the Slava logo. But it’s pretty terrible, very stiff and thin. I’ll probably replace it soon.

Wow! Rare and unique piece to be sure! Have read that the Soviet Shuttle came about as result of soviet spies poaching design info from the NASA Shuttle. Dunno how true that is, but the two are very similar.

And here it is with the new strap!

Maybe there's a quicker way to set the date.

Vostok has a 'trick' to set the date more quickly.

you just have pass the midight to change the date, then go back to 21:00 o clock, and then go pass the midnight to pass another date.

Then go like that back and forth do change more dates more quickly.

Give that a shot

That should work. Heck, it could have the same movement as a Vostok. I'll admit, I'm not an authority on Russian watches.
