Rolex Milgauss appreciation post
It might not be the most popular, but to me it’s the most quirky and unique looking Rolex!
If I had the money (and the time to wait on the waiting list) the only crown-branded watch I’d buy would be the Milgauss.
There is something about that dome (on the Glace Verte version of course) that is just unique.
Add the scientific history and the orange, bolt-shaped second hand, and you have a striking watch that keeps dressy characteristics.
”What history?” you ask.
Well, when it was released in 1954, it was designed with CERN scientists in mind.
Working on nuclear physics, they were sometimes subjected to very strong magnetic fields which wrecked their watches (needing de-magnetisation afterwards to run correctly again).
Rolex designed the Milgauss to withstand fields up to a thousand (“Mille” in French) Gauss (the unit to measure magnetic fields). And there you have it, a highly specialised watch for highly specialised people.

I really admire the history and the engineering (for its time) of this watch. I was my favorite Rolex for a long time before the Explorer replaced it. The combination of colors are so unique. And what can I say for the seconds hand.. Glorious..

On the contrary, i traded my 14270 explorer for this 🤣
What so good about this is that its distinctively different from the usual sub style where people can spot from miles away. And ofcos, the green crystal is certainly one of a kind.
Then again, none of these rolex watches are flying under radar kind, and they dont get much of my wrist time.
