SOTC and a vow

This is my current collection (excluding the ones gifted or inherited)

I have a rule of keeping my “core” collection under six watches. Ignoring the 3 on the left which I am ready to part with anytime but too lazy to sell, my core collection got to six, the limit, with the recent addition of Explorer II.

So next time I buy a watch, I need to part with one of my core six.

I’m posting this to make a vow, to make it difficult for me to break my own rule, and not really for feedback or suggestions. But if you like to give one (I guess many of you do), please feel free😁

Please note;

  • I don’t want a chrono, nor a pilot watch.

  • I don’t need precious metal.

  • I don’t like integrated bracelet.

  • I know it’s missing microbrand. (I had two but gave them to my son.)

  • JLC Geographic is here to stay. It’s been with me for 25 years through good and bad times.

Amazing collection ! Do what you like the most! I have set similar rules for myself and understand why you do not like integrated and precious materials!

My core collection consists of 3 watches at the moment and I am planing to have it at 5 max. I have a couple of gifted ones which do not count.

As for your collection if I may suggest 😅 from the three on the left keep the seiko for fun! And as for the core collection I feel like a blue watch would look amazing in it! And yes please do never sell that jlc!

·

Nice collection. Have you thought about adding some color? Blue dial perhaps?

·

Nice collection! Don't need to add anything but something like a Nomos Club Campus or Blancpain Bathyscaphe would fit nicely. I'd swap the Polaris for a Bathy.

Thank you!

I actually started with the rule of max 5 watches as well, based on use case categories

  • Dress x 1

  • Business x 1

  • Smart Sport / Business (summer and rainy days) x 1

  • Outdoor x 2 (I am out in moutains all the time)

I added one for "Fun" category beacuse I found that the collection would look too serious, which is now occupied by SMP300m Seaweed.

I will keep Seiko snoopy for the first grandchild (if I ever have one) 🐶

As per a blue watch, I have my eye on Grand Seiko SLGH013 but am not yet convinced enough to replace Polaris😁

Actually the SMP300 I have is green although it may look like black on the photo. Having said that, I am looking at Grand Seiko SLGH013 with very light hue of blue.

You read my mind very well😆

I was actually torn between Polaris and Bathyscaphe. I liked the design of Bathyscaphe better but the large one was too big and small one felt too small.

I also love Nomos design although the long lugs keep me from getting one (I have a tiny wrist.)

Yeah that polaris is hard to beat! Maybe the new blue polaris 😅 and grand seiko is also amazing ! So try it out and see how you feel about it! Maybe also give up the Sinn for it instead

You share almost the same set of rules for my collection 😅 You’ve got a beautiful set ✅

I liked Polaris Date in blue and in green but they were too large for me. I preferred the size and symmetry of no date, which was only available in black😅

Sinn has a very specific mission - climbing mountains in winter so cannot be replaced with GS😅

Explorer II can handle it too but I don’t want ice axe or crampons near Explorer II😆

Thank you!

The rule has been working so far, keeping me from going bankrupt and giving each watch fair amount of wrist time😊

Stunning collection!

Great collection! 👏🏻👏🏻

You can swap the Sun, I feel you might have that tool watch angle well covered between the SMP300, JLC Polaris, the Explorer and the Gshock. Consider maybe a Panerai? with that Luminor 1950s cushion case 👌🏻

Nice collection! Vintage maybe?

·

I have also found 6x to be the sweet spot. Maybe a solution is to get another box that stores 6x? 🤣

·

Pretty much perfect, you have all occasions covered 👍time to enjoy your collection and stop searching for a while.

I’ve been avoiding vintage as I am sure it is going to be another rabbit hole 😂

·

The watch in the top left corner is amazing

The watch in the top left corner is amazing

It’s a wrist watch version of this wall clock.

The wrist watch version is pretty much useless as you need to press a button to show the time. And it goes dark before I can figure out what time it is😂

You shouldn’t stop at 6 in the core collection. Showing restraint and discipline in buying watches is not welcome here. We WatchCrunchers/enablers need you to be a true addict.

Absolutely love the Master Ultra Thin World Timer ... beautiful collection!

Absolutely love the Master Ultra Thin World Timer ... beautiful collection!

Thank you! It’s Master Geographic, unfortunately not Ultra Thin😅

They still have it in their catalogue. The current model is larger at 40mm (mine is 38) and the dial shows the effort to fill in negative space but it’s not as well balanced as this old model.

I stand corrected. I tried it on at the JLC boutique at the same time as the Ultra Thin perpetual calendar, I thought it had the same nomenclature. On my wrist, 40 works better ... But I'm sure the 38 is a joy to wear, as well.
