Hamilton vs Seiko?

Is the Hamilton worth the extra 320€ ?

What would you choose?

For first auto watch !!!

Hamilton everyday and twice on Sunday.

Seiko 5 is a good watch but not in Hamiltons league.

·

Have a look at CWC !!

Love the history and the look of a Hamilton, the sapphire crystal, but I am scared of the movement, and the fact that I will probably not wear it often and I cannot justify myself the extra cost.

The Seiko is a decent (I believe) alternative, without the wow factor, and with a price tag not close but not so far from the Hamilton. I am in a serious doubt, and the 50-50 poll doesn't help 🤣🤣🤣

Hamilton has better movement and finishing, but I just prefer Seiko's design

·

So - yes, Hamilton is worth it, if you know what you want and what you're buying.

·

Both are good, but I'd take the Seiko. For what it's worth, the Khaki auto was the first automatic watch I ever bought. I eventually sold my Khaki auto, but I still have my Seiko SRPG29. The Khaki was a bit shiny and the crystal reflections always bothered me. But I'm actually wearing the Khaki Mechanical today, which has a more toolish look I prefer.

The Hamilton is about 3x more expensive.

I've been in the same situation and I've been deciding between the same two watches, interesting.

I chose the Seiko, because it's my first mechanical watch and at that time I did not know what I want. Spending 500€+ on a watch did not seem reasonable (and still isn't, but that's another story).

I went for the Seiko first, liked it. Then I found the Hamilton Mechanical at a good price and bought. Sold the Seiko and still have the Khaki… Imho the Seiko but better connect to the Hamilton.

I had this debate going on in my head, even put the question on here. In the end I went with the Seiko. For me and my budget it just made sense. The two do exactly the same thing….and I could buy a bunch of bands plus another Seiko for the same money as the Hamilton.

Another selling point is the reflective glass on the Hamilton. Everyone says it’s an issue but still recommended the Hamilton. Then you see people saying they sold it because of it. Yes it’s still a nice watxh.

Do what makes you happy if you have the funds. I went with the SNZG15J1 because I wanted the larger 42mm dial that the newer Seiko fields don’t come with.

Your mileage may vary!

I would choose the Hamilton. The Seiko is OK, but the Khaki is simply a nicer watch. I've had a KFM 42mm and I now have the Murph, and both are lovely watches. But then I'm a massive fan of the brand 😂

Exactly my thoughts!

Thank you, very helpful. I am also afraid the h10 movement of the Hamilton. Too many complaints. I like the Seiko A LOT ,but the Hamilton is stuck to the back of my head . You feel me.

Buy a used or grey market Hamilton. The use the savings to buy the Seiko.

100% I promise you I was there too!

Do some soul searching on why. For me it was a status thing about having a Hamilton. I think to a degree that’s why many people have many of the watches they do…but I didn’t want that for me. I’m simple and don’t need anything more. It fit my budget.

Last suggestion then I’ll let you toil with your decision. On Amazon I found the Seiko had “Try Before You Buy” option. So I ordered the Seiko and tried it out for 3-4 days then sent it back to buy from JD for $100 cheaper lol. It came with a scratch so I assume others have done the same. I gave it a whirl and decided the Seiko was just the watch I wanted. Yes the Hamilton is supposed to be more refined and has hacking…but that doesn’t bother me. Maybe see if you can find that option on Amazon?

It also gives me some comfort and a laugh on a bright sunny day when I’m looking down at my Seiko dial and admiring the beauty in simplicity while the Hammy owners look down and see their reflection in the glass and being partly blinded ;)

**disclaimer**not my pic…found on Google Images. Just to justify my own Seiko decision and to make myself feel better about my Seiko purchase but deep down wondering if I would have liked the Hamilton better…..shhh don’t tell anyone I said that, though!

You are the best!! Btw the srpg35 have hacking and manual winding 😉

Seiko 5 is a Homage to the old Hamiltons and Elgins. Get the real McCoy not the wannabe.

·

I bought the same seiko as my first field watch, my first seiko, and my second mechanical. I couldn't get over the thickness for a field watch, 13.5mm. I wore it like 20 times and basically gave it to my local watch maker for him to try to sell. The next mechanical I purchased was the Khaki Auto, and I'm a big fan of it. My GSAR wins my wrist most days because I love the distinct and aggressive look and the tritium, but the Khaki Auto is a fine field watch with a little more class, which fits right into all of the times I want a mechanical still but don't want the size and boldness of the GSAR.

That said, the seiko is considerably cheaper, the importance of which is entirely up to you. I think it also had better lume than the Hamilton, but that's not hard to do. The lume on the field watches from Hamilton is pretty limited.

❤️ it my take -
