Homage or not homage?

Hi all. This is my mechanical homage watch from San Martin. What do you say again about homage watches? I know there have been discussions about this.

I say what I always say. They are fine.

Branded fakes, however, suck.

·

This is a never ending discussion.

Wear whatever you want.

If it makes you happy that's all that really matters. You can probably be certain that nobody will ever shake their finger at you and chant "fake watch fake watch".

·

This is based purely on my own experience; I can't speak for everyone:

If I can enjoy a homage without constantly seeking validation on its merits then I think it's a great thing.

If the original lives rent-free in my brain, even in a negative context, then homages are simply a crutch.

As I have said many times, they are not for me, but if you like them and they make sense to you, buy them, there is nothing wrong with them but AAA copies and garbage of that type are 💩.

·

I don’t care for them, but so what? If it pleases you, then just enjoy it! We’re all here to have fun!

Right?

Remember that time I was so worried about the homage opinions of others that I asked the watch community for their blessing? Me neither.

Your wrist, your rules, my friend!

That's a killer, well-made watch. I bet it tells time just the same :-)

Wear what you like..enjoy! I am for homage not fakes. Currently, I am collecting watches with the goal of selling all of them (except a few) and getting the first and only luxury watch. Going into an Ad is nice but, I don't want to waste anyone's time. By getting some of these homages gives me sort of the opportunity to see if I would actually be willing to spend on that one luxury watch. Yes, homages are nothing like the Grail but, if I am to give myself a sort of test drive. Why not? Some of these homages are much better than they were in the past. So far I have a few homages that I thought I would have wanted as a luxury but, in the end does nothing for me... I know it's a stretch, this is just my personal journey. Enjoy your watch looks great!

Nice. Just got this San Martin (but with a sterile dial so I can do my own logo...) What rubber strap is this? Looks like a perfect fit to the lugs.

·

I think the million dollar question should be if you own a homage and argue that is not a replica isn't that conflict of interest 😂😂😂.

·

Dislike them myself, but do what makes you happy!! It's your hobby. 👍🏻👍🏻

·

I am not a big fan. Much prefer microbrands who come up with their own designs. But at the end of the day, I respect people disagreeing with my views on the matter. Wear what you like 👍

·

Thank you for all your insights, Gentlemen! I do appreciate all comments and opinions.

I got it from Amazon. It’s for a Moonswatch, actually. But it fits my San Martin’s lugs perfectly.

Thanks. I finally did see that San Martin makes rubber straps for this model, but I was hoping to find one with a deployant clasp. Interesting that ones made for the Moonswatch fit this one - I also have one and was thinking of getting a rubber strap for it. Nice to know it can do double duty.
