Got my PD-1701

So I just received my PD-1701 from Pagani Design. It's a Speedmaster homage.

Here are my thoughts:

  1. The stickers that they cover stuff up are highly annoying when it comes to the crown and pushers.

  2. My not-really-reliable diamond tester does not detect sapphire, but it's probably sapphire and my tester is wrong because it has struggled with curved crystal before as well.

  3. The curve is cool, but noticeably lower quality than my far more expensive San Martin and Nomos.

  4. Everything seems to align, except for the second subdial, which is slightly tilted, which is only noticeable from quite close. Also, the seconds hand on that subdial tends to miss markers as is typical.

  5. Chrono works and there is no issue with the minute hand jumping after a reset.

  6. Crown screw-in mechanism is not great.

  7. The watch looks amazing and the size is wearable, though bigger than optimal.

  8. The bracelet barely fits my 16cm wrist after adjustment by removing all links and moving the microadjust to the middle position.

  9. Moving the microadjust to the smallest position causes problems with the clasp's closing mechanism.

  10. The finishing is great, but bracelet does not match the watch.

  11. The bracelet has 5 actually separate links, which is cool, though not practically better in any way.

  12. Date looks better irl than in images.

  13. The caseback is really nice:

Using tape to pull the blue stuff off the crown makes it much easier. I hope you enjoy it!

A little hack I used to do when I had a few of these new when I started out....

Take the film that is either on the sapphire or the back plate and then dab it on the crown or pushers, the blue comes straight off! 👍

It’s a copy

No, it's not a "copy" per se ... the PD1701v3 is an "Homage", which is an accepted term within the Watch Community for a piece that gives the look and/or in some cases the "vibe" of a well-known watch from an established brand, but is not an "exact" replica. An Homage also carries its own branding.

I too own this watch and luckily there are no readily apparent misalignment or other QC issues. But, it is a $100 watch after all and certainly good quality for the price! I love mine! 👍
