Which tool watch

Hi Crunchers, I'm looking to get a tool watch and have narrowed it down to these two: Sinn 556i or a Seiko SPB317 Slim Turtle. I've had the Sinn before, so I know it's a great watch and would like one again. However, I also wouldn't mind a timing bezel, therefore the SPB317 would be my choice. I'd get the SPB317 for about half the price of the 556i, but would have to get an additional bracelet.

Can you verify that the potential Seiko will have everything in order?

What are the deciding factors for you?

Yeah, the Seiko is in good shape and still has warranty, plus good alignment and freshly regulated by Seiko.

I like both Seiko and Sinn, and would like a tool watch to complement my Collection. A weekend-watch, but in a stealthy color scene, that's why I went for the two black ones. Also had an Omega Railmaster in the choice, but don't want faux patina. Compact size and a bracelet option would be nice ;)

Personally, the 556i is the epitome of a minimalist tool watch. I'd have to wear it on a coloured strap.

The Seiko looks more interesting.

I know the Sinn has a more accurate movement, and is generally more tough, but I value looks as high as functionality.

yeah agreed, the 556i is built like a tank and super minimalist looking. I have a couple of straps I want to try on it.

What I like about the Seiko, is that is's a bit lie an SKX on steroids and with great quality

I had to learn a lesson: A minimalist GADA on a great bracelet is the worst. My Tisell Explorer just belongs on a bracelet (toolless too!), but it starts to feel so boring, despite the perfect dimensions and legibility. Or a strap, which adds colour, but loses the wholeness.

The 556i is very difficult to beat. Great size and proportions. An fussy design that is classic and suitable everywhere. A good movement that has been highly regulated. And goes with any strap. It has my vote. But I am biased as I own the 556ib myself 😁

Would honestly take the Seiko just for the functionality of the bezel. But that’s just me.

Yeah, the ib is pretty cool, like the applied indices 👍🏼

To me, #seiko is the ultimate decision. It’s my answer 90% of the time.

Extremely well crafted, incredibly accurate, dependable and amazingly designed watches.

You have to ask yourself why you let the last 556 go.

If wasn't a financial decision then the Seiko could be the right call.

I’ve been eyeing a 556 A for a while so I get it. My personal reason is that I like the 556A aesthetic. Simple, clean, easy to read and the watch is thin but has great water resistance.

Maybe if you want that type of watch consider a Damasko DK30 as an alternative?

I have Divers so the bezel is a non issue for me. But here is another thought, which is going to cost you more. Save up for a Sinn T50. Similar dial to the 556i, medium size and has a bezel and you have the best of both worlds if that is what you wish. Sorry if I just made it worse.

It's not really an apples and apples comparison.

Yeah good point!
