A little sweet review: Bew Metric Retro

Hi family!

Although I'm trying to follow a path in my first chapter of collecting watches, I allow myself some sweets on the way. This is one of them.

I knew about this watch through a Teddy video, and I connected to it at first sight. It looked so good, vintage and funny. But I'm from Spain, and buying from the USA is a bit of a pain in the ass with all the taxes and customs; I'm not used to it (yet). So, I created a saved search on chrono24 for this model in UE and waited for the notification.

Image

It came in the middle of the night while I was feeding my newborn daughter. I bought it without really caring if it was in good condition or anything because my mind was still asleep. I just made an offer way lower than what he/she was asking for, expecting a bit of a play, but it was accepted right away, and I clicked buy. When I woke up, I regretted buying it without taking more time.

Image

But it came a few days later and it was perfect. Of course it has some little scratches on the buckle, as expected on a used watch. Nothing else was wrong. I sized it and... I just loved it.

Image

The bracelet looks like an integrated one, but actually you can put a 20mm strap on it. From a distance, it looks like one of the sports watches from de 70s, those Genta inspired. From close, the colors and design make it fun to see and use. It puts a smile on my face each time I look at it.

Image

I have a very small wrist (6.2" / 15.5 cm), and its size looks amazing on it. And it's very comfortable for its price.

But... yes, there are some "buts"; this bracelet is easy to scratch, and using it from time to time, sharing wrist size with my other watches, it's the most "damaged" one. They're not big scratches, but they're noticeable enough.

Image

Also, the crystal, a sapphire one, is a finger-print magnet. I don't know why, but it's always a bit dirty when I look at it.

I don't like the position of the date. Not only is it between 4 and 5, but it's not in the middle of those two but close to the 5th numeral. I can live with that.

The movement's a meca-quartz chronograph from Seiko. So, although the seconds hand moves every second (bottom dial), the feeling of the chronograph buttons is mechanical, and the movement of the chronograph seconds hand is also mechanical. Although I would have loved a mechanical movement (it comes with the illness), the choice makes it cheaper and thinner, which both are good characteristics, aren't they?.

After a few months of owning it, it still makes me smile when I use it, and I'm still using it a lot.

As the brand name indicates, it's a watch created around coffee. The markers between 25 and 35 are painted on a different color. That range is the right time for an espresso. I'm not a coffee nerd. At home, I used to drink tea, and I don't own a coffee machine. But it's cool to have something useful on the wrist, and it makes it different. I like it.

The only coffee machine I can time is the Nespresso one in the office.

The time wasn't between 25 and 35, but I drank it anyway. I know, I'm crazy.

¿Any questions?

Fantastic review my friend. I also own the exact same watch and absolutely love it. I’ve also found it second hand but the original owner never wear it so it was like new! This watch gets a lot of compliments from other watch enthusiasts even a coworker of mine who only goes with automatic find it very good!! Wear it with pride and congrats on your new addition!

Excellent review! Thank you! I'm currently on Brew's website. Must... not... click... checkout.

Welcome to the brew club. Have had mine for about 8 months now and love it (though a pain to photograph with all the shiny aspect). Luckily for me I have a friend from the states visiting (I’m based in the UK) so he brought it across 😉

Love the fact there will be meaning to the watch given when you purchased it.

Enjoy it. The new Metric in titanium is also amazing! But I think I’m late on this comment 🤪

There is already a watch I bought that represents being a father. So no link has been created between the Brew and my daughter…
