Hunting for MoonSwatch

https://www.watchtime.com/featured/tag-heuer-and-kith-collaborate-to-revive-original-formula-1-watch/

Whatever I say, I am afraid #tag just arrived to the forgotten zone, so that they need to find a way to move their old status back to the safety area. The idea from #swatch to get hype from a famous brand such as #omega just failed a year or two later to try to make it reverse and polish the brand #blancpain a little bit without any positive impact.

What I see now between Kith and Tag that it could be a great marriage if they made it 4-5 years ago, but I think the wave is over and the enthusiasts already spend there gadget money on other experimental watches.

What do you think about this collaboration?

Over priced by a grand.

Hate the "Just Us" on the dial.

I am not convinced that the Swatch x Omega/Blancpain were misses. There is still a good demand for them albeit waning.

I do think that Tag missed the pricing and demand for the Kith collab. The original Formula 1 as a relaunch on its own could have been a great moment for Tag to bring in fresh consumers to their brand.

That all being said, I have no data to back up my claims and don't know enough about the Kith brand power. Overall, I like the new Tag launch but won't pay the price point for the Kith brand collab.

·

I think the collaboration aren't meant for "enthusiasts", and do quite well for the brands involved.

What I see a lot of are people who were never the target audience, throwing a tantrum about a product not made for them.

My understanding is the Kith Heur watches have sold quite well, and have likely exposed people who weren't really "into" watches to the world of watches.

For me Tag Heuer is the Autavia line, Monaco, Monza and

Like I said in a previous comment, save a grand and buy the original

Yup.

How many new enthusiasts will be joining here in a few months/years with all of the new member posts, mentioning their first "real" watch was a Moon/Fifty Swatch and/or a Kith Tag?

Same reason why Taurus and Mossberg do so well, honestly they are not for enthusiasts, but those who want a reliable, affordable firearm to dip their toes.

Cuz Sig, Glock, S&W, Colt, etc are a significant investment for someone who doesn't know if they want a firearm.

Indeed.. I love when firearms guys tell a guy looking to bust a few clays to pick up a $3K Browning, rather than a $500 Huglu...

Dude doesn't know what he really wants yet, and the Turkish gun will get him started. With enough cash left for actually shooting the thing.

I think that the collab mostly worked.

Now, this is a MASSIVE assumption, but I have a feeling where things went a bit wrong is this:

  • I think that somewhere along the way, there may have been a disagreement on the RRP

  • I think that originally the 5 steel (3 five link, 2 coated PVD) were supposed to be priced at the Tag level, and the 5 plastic at a cheaper price

  • Kith (perhaps) insisted on making them all the same price

  • Tag then said “fine but then only you sell them for that price” (Tag only sold the steel versions through their boutiques)

Therefore the result we got was 3 types of watches all priced at the same level and therefore all tarnished with the same brush (“a cheap plastic watch”), when really that’s not the case.

Full disclosure - I purchased the Black steel (picking up tomorrow). It’s $1,500 yes (all Tag quartz start at that price), but it’s steel, 200m WR, in a design that I love (own an original F1) in updated materials. To me that’s value that’s in line.

Interested to get other people’s perspective. But to sum up the biggest misfire was releasing 3 different watches that everyone trashed as the same thing.

Good points! Get it!

The pricing is a total miss for what these are. They could have been a much more durable and maybe even more fun version of the Moonswatch, but the price completely cuts them out of the picture. Huge missed opportunity.

·

Pricing was a miss but it’s also Kith. Kith is HUGE in the current streetwear scene and every collab they do gets people’s eyes on them. It’s no surprise TAG collabed with Kith since Kith’s demographic is exactly what TAG wants to break into. Kith always prices their products high so it’s not a surprise.

Honestly, TAG couldn’t have found a better way to appeal to their target audience. There isn’t a bigger streetwear brand right now then Kith.

These watches probably made 90% of watch “enthusiasts” cringe but most of us weren’t the target for these watches.

Also makes moonswatches look like a real good value 🫣

So the MoonSwatch was a cheaper quality version of the original Moon watch. But it was also more price accessible, except for the flippers and hype it generated. I feel this Kith is garbage because it it lesser quality than the original F1 and the price is actualy much less accessible than the original. Based on the fact that the vintage F1 can be found on eBay for $250, I say these Kith watches should sell for $50 to $100. Maybe the appeal to the young, but as a tradeoff I feel they damage Tag In the luxury market. After the 60th Carrera and the 2023 skipper, these are a big step backwards for Tag Heuer.
