Where it all started

When I was a kid, i was out one day just playing in a field behind our houses when out of the blue I found a watch, just lying in the grass. It was more than just a watch though it was a kids watch. I was both confused and happy to have found it, so brought it home to show my parents.

My Dad said that "someone had clearly lost this so we must put a sign in the local shop and leave it there for it to be claimed". 3 months later the watch came back and my Dad said I "could keep it now because I'd found it, given the real owner a chance to claim it and he hadn't, so it was mine fair and square." Over the next few weeks, my Dad taught me how to wear it and wind it every day (14 turns of the crown) and I wore it for years.

And here it is; Its a McDonnell with a 17 jewel mechanical movement from a famous jewellery shop in Ireland.

I'm sending it to my watch guy for its first service in 40+ years and a well deserved clean. It deserves a new strap and a box crystal too. Gonna give it to my boy when he's old enough to wear it for a special occasion

That’s brilliant.

A priceless gem for your collection. Thank heavens you kept it all this time.

Hope it comes back to you well from service.

I applaud your father's honesty. What is the case size? It doesn't look juvenile or of wee proportions.

Case size is 30mm, lug to lug is 34mm and lug size is 16mm, it's very small on my 20cm wrists (sorry no banana for scale!)
