Ginault watches

Hey watch fam, what are y’all’s thoughts on Ginault watches? If you can live with a Rolex homage and the unnecessary text on the dial, seems like a lot of watch for the money. Has anyone experienced these watches?Thoughts?

Always been meh to me - Squale or Steinhart always seemed aesthetically more appealing to me.

·

Ginault sounds to close for me to Guinand.

Some propably don't know, but Guinand is a traditional brand established in Switzerland but merged by Sinn and now located as a subsidiary in Frankfurt Germany, close to the Sinn HQ.

I like them. Seem to be good quality. I don't really care all that about the controversies.

I have the Silent Service and I think it's fantastic. Plus the company has first rate customer service

I own the traveler for… traveling lol. Use it for wet work and it’s solid! What questions do you have?

I know there’s a lot of controversy surrounding the company but it’s a great looking watch. It’s def a Sub homage but it’s seems like a natural evolution of the Sub which remains pretty much unchanged. I think this actually has a nicer look to it or maybe the Sub has just become a bit stale. Anyways I hear they are great quality although ive never handled one.

Saw a couple of reviews on the watch and it looks better built than watches double the price. Just wondering how it’s holding up after extensive use. It looks great on your wrist.

Now , I'm gonna have to look them up

·

They look OK, but nothing particularly interesting to me. Again, taste is very personal

This. Ginault's past is riddled with scandals which makes me uncomfortable

I distinguish between copies, and ‘references’. It’s pretty difficult for a new watch brand not to reference earlier, iconic watches. If it’s respectful, and a quality timepiece, I’m fine with it. Price is another issue 😊

·

Had my eye on their watches for a bit now, not doubt nice looking and people rave about the quality. Just now finding out about controversies

·

For those interested, Perdendosi on WUS gave a pretty detailed look at the situation. It goes on and on but their summary seems thoughtful and fair: https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/is-ginault-legitimate-lets-discuss.4989751/ it’s a reply

Yea totally. I’ve had it for about a year and switch between natos and para straps. It probably has ~50 hours in water over the last year and hasn’t had any issues with leaks and I shower with it after as well (I know I know) overall, as the second owner and using it as a tool and not just a wrist presence I can say that it has been dependable, reliable and much tougher than any watch I currently own. Lume is to die for btw

I found a long piece on Wristwatch Review. That was a good read. A good watch and a spicy story.

I noticed that for a while the owner was sending out free watches rather freely for reviews. My impression is that these are not selling well. Precisely because of that controversy. There is real doubt that these watches are 'hand assembled' in the US. And an owner answering emails under false names hardly inspires confidence.

As for the watch, they have amusing copy and pictures trying to imply some sort of in house manufacturing of the movement. However, they are clearly using an older SW200-1; we can tell from the 36 hrs reserve. I avoid that movement like the plague. I dislike even the modern version 2. The hand winding is a horrific experience.

Still, I won't judge others if they choose to buy. It's their money.

More Seamaster than Sub to my eyes.

Controversy is off putting, but the import tax on anything made it USA makes it prohibitively pricey. 😞
