How do you perceive watches from the past?

I have always liked watches, but I started collecting them about a year and a half ago only so I'm very much new in collecting. My oldest and/or first one were these...

...but I always like to wear them and I can't imagine not owning them. But it's only been a year and a half. What or how will I perceive these watch in 5 or 10 years? Will I be embarrassed to look at them and thinking ashamed what I've built or will I be happy to have them? Everything probably depends on my personality. How do you perceive your watch that you have in your collection for a longer period of time, for instance 10 or more years? They always have a magical spark and when it flashes do you give them a wear time for the day or are they hidden somewhere in the depths of a drawer?

Like anything an item in this case, a watch is a connection with events in your life. Where did you get it, how old were you, what was going on in your life, who did you hang out with? And that connection is priceless and when you take one of those watches out and put it on you may just think “This reminds me of the time when my fiends and parents…..”

Well, you're blessed when you have an event for every watch. I rather thought that when you bought a watch ten years ago just because you liked it without any specific reason whether you perceive it in the same way after many years 🍻

As a man with a blessed life and in a freak accident 3 years ago that left me with nothing (prononed dead and Power of Attorney) I have a unique outlook on things. But you wouldn’t want to change places! Just do what YOU want and think is best for YOU.

I'm sorry to hear that. We all have our good and bad experiences in life. My life isn't exclusive either. Reason why I like watches is that it relaxes me instead of thinking about everyday stuff. I see you from Georgia, it's a lovely state to live. I've been living in La Grange and Lawrenceville for couple of years in past. I've got very nice memories from there. I wish you all the best Matthew 🍻

Whats the last on the right?

My current watch collection goes back with me to 1985 with the oldest watch (my Gold Seiko). But before that time I owned several watches all the way down to when I was a little kid. These little wearable time tellers have never ceased their importance in my life…and that just may be the same for you as the future scrolls on by.

In that case I'll be pleased, I'd just thought about it as I've seen on an other watch forum that some of the guys disliked they past purchases 🤝

Early 50's, had a fair few of very close calls and many hospital trips as a life long biker as well as the usual health issues that go along with the full throttle lifestyle.

Been into watches since I was a kid as many of us were & sort of drifted into the hobby without realising it was a hobby in the 90's.

Became aware it was a proper hobby by stumbling upon TGV, then Watchfinder around 2013ish.

I have no watches in my collection from then. The watch I've got that's been in my collection longest is my Lunar Pilot, maybe 4 years - & I'd "upgrade" that (to a Speedy) in a heartbeat when the opportunity arises.

My Seamaster 300 is my Grail, which I got 3 years ago and I genuinely love move every day (my most worn & by far most expensive)

I'm building a small group of keepers, but I've experienced a LOT of watches and found my tastes, which did take me time. YMMV!!

The point is that it depends on personality and the watch itself.

TLDR-we're all different, do what makes you happy.

I prefer four wheels because if I had to go through on a motorcycle what I went through on a bicycle, I probably wouldn't write this text lol but you have my admiration and respect for handling life at full throttle brilliantly. Thanks for the more detailed insight into your view of the watches. In the last year and a half, I have flown a bit and from nothing I have worked up to five watches, but three of them are built homages. I enjoy creating something as cool as a watch. I can't disagree with Tempus Fugit, it flies by too fast 🍻

You mentioned your Tempus Fugit watch. This is not a very popular brand, although in all fairness, as you stated, they do tend to run a little fast.

For those that can't afford a genuine T. F. watch there is now an AliExpress brand called Tempus Fuckit. These watches also don't keep very good time. But the manufacturers admit right up front that they don't care.

Ah, wasn't aware there's a brand with that name, I simply meant "Time Flies" .

Cheers mate 👍
