Time will tell

I got pretty excited by the release of the new Tudor Ranger Heritage in 39mm. I rushed to the AD to see the unit they had for showing purposes and joined the list to get is as soon as new units would arrive.

Later I gave it some thought as I was unsure about many things and told them to remove me from the list until I'm truly sure I want it. I guess many of you will relate to this.

To cut the story short, I also love the BB58 and every time I don't wear my Lorier Neptune for too long and see pictures of the BB58 I feel like I should sometime get that watch to be a perfect companion to my Explorer. But then I'm not sure again as I genuinely love the Neptune and the soon to arrive S IV.  Also the BB58 is a big chunk of money. Yes, I know they cannot really compare, but here it goes. I like the Lorier a lot. A lot.

Image

And when checking the Caravelle Sea Hunter I'm left confused with the Tudor Ranger. I feel like I kind of have one of the most perfect things with a similar layout, albeit not possible to wear it daily because of... water.

So, the Ranger seems like a great daily driver that would allow me not to put too much stress on the Explorer (I wear almost that one exclusively).

Isn't it a bit redundant to want to have the Ranger and the Explorer... well, I also have the Alpinist and would love to have the Sinn 556 A RS.

There are so many interesting little watches in the micro brand and vintage universe that I would love to have... Just not enough funds or justification.

Anyways. I think I only need time to pass and feelings to settle. There's no rush here. A lot of new great stuff in the following months. We'll see. Meanwhile I just wanted to share these feelings with you all. Thanks for reading until the end.

Not taking the stickers off until I'm 100% convinced! I do like it but the money was meant to be for a BB Pro. 🫤

That one is tempting me too a lot. If I could I'd get the BB59, the Pro and this one, but I have to choose one and even the Ranger is on the expensive side to me. Being uncertain I, right now, prefer to wait. Too much going on and rather give so time for all to settle.

Agree, most of us don‘t have $ printing machine at home 🤣. Since you already have the Explorer, Save the $ for another watch.

·

Hahaha I have the same thoughts except for actually having the option to buy the watches.

Got the Lorier Neptune for my first dive watch. Got the blue one because I like blue dive watches (yes I'm that vain). Then the BB58 came out. Thought it was a home run but didn't see the reason to get it since I have my Lorier and love it.

Then for my first luxury piece it was between the Rolex Explorer and Speedmaster. Once I found the caravelle and got that explorer itch I am no longer wanting a field watch with the 3-6-9 configuration.

On the opposite end of you I really don't the point of this watch for me. I know the explorer is much more expensive and harder to get but I feel like that's the one if you had to get one (which you do!). Albeit I haven't seen it in person but I am not moved the same way the BB58 blue moved me.

Either way interesting thought process! Would be happy to see your choice either way, not buying it leaves room for another watch 😅

Yes, it is a bit redundant, but seeing the Ranger in the flesh it different enough as to be possible to own both, but at the same time I already have the Summiter by Traska and the Alpinist by Seiko. I'm tempted to get the new Summiteer in 36mm and Lorier just launched the new version of the Falcon with... yes! 3,6 and 9 numerals (36mm an acrylic). Oh my goodness. So much out there.

I'm such a sucker for (12), 3, 6, 9 watches... and not really knowing why, that I'd have them all including the new Lorier Falcon to be released in a couple of months and the new 36mm Summiteer by Traska. All of them I'd love to have and even turn into a collector of 3, 6 9 watches. They all call me a lot but right now I need to relax and let time pass and we will see. For now I'm more into looking into micro brands. Really enjoy the iteration and being able to provide some advice to these companies.

Yup so much out there. What about Yema Superman 500? Comes in 39mm or 41mm.

I have a love hate relationship with Yema but believe their watches are great in general. This one is quite classic but I don't like the minute hand a lot (totally subjective, I prefer arrows in the hour hand for whatever reason). But yes, lots of options there and no need to hurry to buy even when my original idea, before the Explorer, was to get a new version of the Ranger.

I am still in two minds if the Ranger is the Exorer killer for me. I love the Explorer and would buy one (the 39 mm. one) instantly when available. But the only thing I do not love about it is the shape of the Arabic numerals. The one on the Ranger is perfect and the same as on my BB58 Bronze. I will let it simmer for a while... 🙃

I love the numerals of the Ranger. Well, I love the 1016 to be honest but after having the Explorer, the numerals and general layout comes to its true essence and sense thus I'm loving it. This being said, I believe is a very different creature. The current Explorers are more on the luxury versatility side while the Ranger is more of the daily driver you can actually, and probably should, take to your outdoor adventures given the sturdiness and reliability. So I believe both have space in a collection but at the same time, when funds are limited, it is something to really think about. But oh the numerals! Oh those numerals...

In my collection I am lucky enough to have a piece of Tudor's big brother, a Datejust ref. 1603 that I inherited from my grandfather.

Image

At this point in my journey I consider that I have completed my search for the perfect watch around 1K (NOMOS Club), and now would perhaps be a good time to start thinking/saving for my choice around 3K.

Image

I think the new Tudor Ranger offers a lot of very positive things: history, brand prestige, great quality, in house calibre, iconic design, etc. But until I see it in person I won't know if it's a watch for me (I must say I'm not really a fauxtina guy).

The hands on moment with the watch will tell. I hope I can check it out soon.

As always, beautiful Caravelle Mario 👌🏻

Yeah, don't usually like faux patina but well, that's part of the overall picture of what we have here and would have to deal with it.

Love that Sea Hunter!

Buy what you love! If they make you happy who cares if they are redundant!

My collection is make up of 90%+ dress watches because that style appeals to me most. I'm not a believer in a collection that checks off boxes (i.e. you must have 1 dive watch, 1 GMT, 1 field watch etc.) just for the sake of it.

Yes, I totally agree. I'm leaning towards field watches and have a few and have had some more... and divers. Those are the watches I like most and don't really mind to overlap, but since there are many I like also and I'm not totally convinced about either one I rather take my time.

I think it was Phillippe Dufour who said something of the effect that , "There are many watches out there, take your time."

well, I have an explorer and a Sinn….and am selling the Sinn right now. All my other “field” watches just don’t have any wrist time since I got the explorer. I also have a BB58, and I can only confirm: it is on another level than any lorier, yema or other sub 1k diver. Makes the perfect 2 watch collection in my opinion. Yet, I think there is always a place for something like a lorier if you consider it your beater watch.

Yes, the BB58 can't compare but I just can't afford it right now and I'm usure I really want it though I love it. While the Ranger is really calling me. Only time will tell me what to do if I do anything.

love the Sea Hunter relative to the Ranger

I tried it on at my ad and I so want to love it,but for me it’s a no go. Something about this one just doesn’t do it for me.

Yes, kind of happened to me after a while. A different feeling from the Explorer. Still love this design. Maybe de faux patina and/or the size. Don't know. I like it a lot but very unsure to be honest.

Honestly it’s the negative space on the dial, the faux patina, and it is all at once to small and to big all at the same time. Trust me this is not a bash as I wanted so desperately to love it. The 39 explorer worked so well for my large wrist and the ranger fell short to me. that at 6 bucks will get you a cup of coffee for what it’s worth.

Yes, kind of makes sense. I have the Explorer and wanted this one to be an everyday watch which design reminds me so much of the 1016. But yes, size in this one is crazy.
