Watches in the Wild… Europe edition

Long post alert…

Friends, one of my favorite parts about our vacation to Italy & Slovenia was watch spotting.

For reference, I can go weeks in my little Ohio town without seeing anything but Apple Watches. But everywhere we went in Europe people proudly wore their proper timepieces!

Here is a list of some of the pieces I was able to get eyes on during our travels:

Rolex:

More OP’s and DJ’s than I could count. Oddly, no fluted bezels. To a watch, all smooth bezels.

No date Submariner

Explorer 2 black dial

Explorer 2 Polar worn by our Lufthansa flight attendant

The highlight? A fellow traveler and I got to talk watches when I complemented him on his GMT Master 2 white gold Pepsi. Wow the watch is stunning in person. (Ought to be for $40k!)

Omega:

Lots of AT’s

Several SMP 300’s

A beautiful vintage pie pan Constellation

The Omega boutique in Venice had nearly every 75th anniversary edition in stock. The wife wanted me to buy the AT Worldtimer in this boutique but I declined.

Panerai:

It’s Italy! Of course there were plenty of Luminor and Radiomir to be seen. I left with a Radiomir Quaranta!

Ran across a Certina and Longines boutique in Portorez. I’ve never seen Certina in person, so that was fun.

When we landed at our domestic airport, after 23 hours of transfers. airports and flights…. My blurry eyes looked down at the guy walking next to me and he was wearing either a Richard Mille or a Frank Muller. I couldn’t tell and am still kicking myself for not asking.

My takeaway? The majority of Apple Watch wearers were tourists. Hats off to my European friends for rocking their watches!

Fun post! The more time goes by, the more I’d like to try a Panerai

Tbh I’m in love with this watch. It’s worth a visit to an AD if you can find one!

Forgot in the original post, a Breitling Navitimer and a Nomos I couldn’t identify.
