Vostok Amphibia Not Running?

So my conveniently 1 week out of warranty Vostok Amphibia stopped running today. I figured it needed wound, so I wound it, and wound it and wound it. Then I did the Macarena with it. Nothing.

In frustration, I banged it against the dresser… and “poof” it started running.

Have any of you experienced this with Vostok? I understand the movement is objectively junk, but still… it’s a mechanical thing that should, for the most part, just work!

Maybe it’ll work with a little bit of vodka

Yeah they get a little sticky sometimes. Just a light tap. Usually breaks off some gunk. Hopefully you will not to do it again for a while. Good luck!

Well, it’s Saturday night… I can give it a go. 2 for me, 1 for the Vostok. 2 for me, 1 for the Vostok. 😂😂😂

My Amphibia let water in during my trip to Cuba, about two months into owning it. Still works, but it’s been shelved since. My Komandirskie works when IT wants 🤷‍♂️. It’s sad since I wanted a scuba dude like Steve Zissou (Bill Murray).

Boy I hope so… It’s a cool watch!

Their watches are cool, collectible and cheap. Fun watches for the money. I just wish they were… better.

Total amateur opinion, but this is probably gunk or rust on the mainspring, and fully winding allows the spiral coils to cling together. I recently had a cheap old mechanical travel alarm clock that had this problem. It would run fine, but when wound it would stop but bopping it would eventually get it running.

So this is like a year or two old? This should be more of a nearing-service-interval issue.

I think you’re probably right on the gunk. I’ve had it a week over two months which is the warranty that buyvostok.com provides. Vostok themselves are shut down for shipping, warranty etc. from and to the USA. So I’m kinda stuck with what the seller provided.

Sometimes if the beat rate is off they are hard to start.

Yeah, just give her a jolt, lol

Both my Amphibia works and keeps time very well, but my 710 came with a loose wheel in the automatic movement that I had to set back in place myself. Easy fix but annoying.

In short, the manufacturing and QA at Vostok is in line with the period. It's a 60's watch with a 60's approach to quality. They are great if you get one that was made on a good day and total junk if you don't.

It’s Russian so beat it until it complies 💁🏻‍♂️😂

Mine does the same every now and then, as said above, happens more frequently with a fully wound mainspring. I try to hit it against a pillow or my bed and then it starts running. The issue is less prone to happen when worn on the wrist, so it’s a good excuse to actually wear the watch.

·

I had a similar experience with my Komandirskie. It just magically run again after I manually-wind it pass its limit

·

Don't know what you guys do to these things, mine are both fine, but they are both 090 case. Maybe that's it.

My Vostok has had a similar issue. Bumping it works. Runs mostly flawlessly

Have the same model, mine stoped working all together. Got it fixed for $20 with a local watchmaker, simple movement so cheap fix. I have an 80s komandriskie that gains like 10 seconds every hour, tried to regulate it but no luck. It’s literally all the way on the slow side so gotta take it for a service someday

Glad to hear it was only $20. If it happens again I’ll take it in. I figured it was much more and I’ve only got like $95 in the watch so so price conscious on repairs.
