Hello WatchCrunchers,

I hope ya'll doing great. So I researched 8 fascinating facts about seiko and on the process of researching, I discovered so many mind blowing facts about them. I felt bad only listing 8 of them but in reality, I feel they have more than 8 fascinating facts. Anyways, here are some point that made me obsessed with Seiko:

1. Rich History:

Seiko, a Japanese watchmaker founded in 1881, has a fascinating history that spans over 140 years. The company has been at the forefront of watchmaking innovations, introducing numerous industry firsts, such as the first quartz wristwatch, the first kinetic watch, and the first GPS solar watch. I love Seiko watch despite their recent QC issues

aweee.. thats very nice of you. Yea, I went to forums and quora. It was very surprising about Seiko’s QC issues. Idk but some user claimed the QC issues are largely cosmetic problems (like the bezel and dial) and mostly only with the Prospex models.

I hope there are no QC issues in the GRAND SEIKO line collection 🥹

I believe the Grand Seiko watches are made in different studios and have more stringent QC tests than Seiko.

I have seen quite a bit of GSs here in Japan and their quality and finish is excellent. You can rest easy, haha

Yup, certified Seikopath.

Imho best value out there - love their Mid tier Prospex line. I have 2 Willards and others, but they really stand out for me. Wish my Omega's had the diashield coating,it's brilliant!

Yeah, gotta Love Seiko 👊🏼

I'm fortunate to have a Seamaster 300 ( Spectre look-a-like) & quartz Aqua Terra.

Both beautiful, both scratch far easier than my Seikos!!

Never heard of this brand before! Thanks for the link!

Kidding. I wouldn’t say I’m an obsessed cult member. I do appreciate Seiko, their history and their place. I own a few and like them a lot. They do need to start playing catch-up with QC, though. The misaligned bezels, for example. It’s whatever on my SKX013 but at the price point of the SPB313, it shouldn’t be an issue. I understand some people also don’t care much for the 6R35 movement. In my experience it’s a little fast (20+ sec). There’s starting to be a lot of micro brands moving in with better specs, fit and finish that offer a lot of competition. I hope Seiko can get back to their rightful place but they need to get it together!

·

I don't know, Seiko huh? I like the ones I have but have never been impressed by their mechanical movements. And now a Seiko solar is now refusing to charge adequately to run as it should (I know, I know, its the battery). I have many Citizen EcoDrives older than that Seiko and they do not have the problem.

That being said, I like Seiko's designs but find their execution to be lacking occassionally.

Thank you for your information🙏🏻. i have heard great things about The Seiko 6R35 movement. Personally for movements, I often use theNH70, NH35 or NH35A for MOD watches 😃 (it is affordable and robust).

But ya.. sooo, while researching, I cane across a book called “THE WATCH THROUGHLY REVISED” the writer said that at 2018, there are 2million watch manufacturer and amongst many, only 55 was most prominent. And Seiko is one of them 🥹aweeeeee

Thank you for your information. Ngl, that is understandable. My brother has a SEIKO PADI SOLAR. After 5 years of nonstop wearing it, he said the solar refused to charge (which he took to the service centre and got it repaired).🥹

2 million!? I thought these things were obsolete? 😏

Of course Seiko would be in the top 55. They have a huge share of the market. They’ve been at it a long time.

I have a love hate relationship with this brand. First, in my eyes they make the most beautiful watches ever but then they equip them with really disposable movements, and now they want 1000 bucks or more for them. I don't know man, I really want this brand to win, but what you get nowadays for 1000 bucks from German, Swiss brands it's just better than what Seoko has to offer.

Thank yoi for your information. Totally understandable. Recently (to be precise on MARCH because my Father’s birthday in on APRIL), I was looking for a GRAND SEIKO watch. But the price kinda reaches from us$500 to thousands 😭.

So after researching GERMAN WATCH, there are 3 brands that interest me SO MUCH!

LACO

JUNKER

JUNGHAN

Tbh, I’m very interested with JUNGHAN but the price 😭. Eventually I end up geting LACO for my dad as it is much reachable for my budget (and gosh, great reviews). But def, Junghan is in my bucket list 🔥

Thank you for your info. I googled the seiko 7A and YAAASSSSS.. it reminds me of paul newman’s rolex daytona! 🙌🏻

·

Not really with you here. Seiko make great at designs, but no longer offer good value. I love many of their dials, their case shapes, and steel finishing, however QC issues can be a problem, specification is generally poor, and unless you buy a grand Seiko the movements are average at best.

I have owned many Seikos, but at present my only one is an Alpinist with a mountain glacier dial. honestly, it is drop dead gorgeous, but at the same time isn't worth the money. Full UK retail price is about £700, and for that you get a very average bracelet and clasp, and a 6r35 movement which despite being regulated several times doesn't keep very good time. As well as that the internal bezel spins because Seiko didn't make the second crown screw down. In reality it is worth about half the price Seiko charge.

Yeah, I need to package my Solar Compass watch and send it to Seiko for service. I’ve got a lot of watches that need some TLC. 😉

I love Seiko, and I hate to be "that guy" but since nobody else is pointing it out...

Both the article referenced at the top and the contents of this post are complete clickbait and list few, if any, interesting facts about Seiko, despite their titles. And based on the post history of this user, it looks like shill hype content.

😉Yes, I like the company as well. For a second column:

  • Spring Drive!

  • the groundbreaking modern movements like 9F, 9R and 9S!

  • You left out the historical Geneva observatory watch trials of the 60s…That Seiko eventually crushed the Swiss at, causing them to cancel the trials mid trial, and also ‘cheat’ at by entering a quartz watches instead of mechanical 😂
