MY TUDOR BB41

A few weeks ago I sold my 36 millimeter Omega Seamster Midsize, reference 2551.80.00, which I owned for 9 or 10 months. My relationship with it was not all rainbows and sunshine, for the first few months it didn’t feel like mine, it could have been that I knew I would part with it eventually. But, at one point the Seamster became an extension of me, I’d feel guilty wearing another watch. The Seamster and I were in such unity that I’d regret not wearing it, the few times I didn’t wear it. It was instantly recognized when I’d walk into boutiques and I almost felt prideful of it. But then the honeymoon phase started to wear off. It felt too small at 36 millimeters on my 7 inch wrist yet I want an Explorer. It was running 30 seconds slow and my local watch repairman couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it. I had already spent 1500 or so on it, my biggest purchase to date besides my car, and I didn’t want to spend hundreds and have it fully serviced by Omega. During this time I listed it for sale and was trying to decide what I wanted next. I love, LOVE, plain ol’ boring watches. Oyster Perpetual? Yes, please. Explorer? Double yes! Omega Aquaterra black dial? God yes! I’m a plain guy; I love vanilla ice cream, my room is navy blue, my electric guitar is pewter green, I have colorful license plates on my ceiling and eye catching colorful loud movie posters and art on my wall…maybe I’m not a plain guy. Nonetheless I love plain, straightforward clean watches that I can go anywhere do anything with, or GADA as we say in the community. The search for a watch is great, it’s fun, it’s frustrating, it’s annoying, but it’s great. I wanted an Omega Aquaterra or a Tudor Ranger 39mm. An older AT in a reasonable price range was almost impossible to find and Rangers were high in price. I got a message from a guy I sold my Alpinist to about a Tudor Black Bay 41 with box and papers being sold for an absolute steal of a price. Coincidentally I sold the Seamaster 30 or 40 minutes after the Tudor BB41 was posted and I was able to sang it right away. I received it quickly and put it on right away and I was so scared of it, it was huge. Jumping from 36 to 41 millimeters was an insanely big jump. Fast forward a few days and I was immediately in love. The simple and boring 3 link style bracelet was so beautiful and perfect. The thick clasp, the perturbing crown, everything about it is perfect. I’ve now owned it for a month and I’m mesmerized every time I look at it. It’s truly an amazing go anywhere do anything watch. It’s sleek and goes under sleeves perfectly. The polished bezel and sides of the case allow me to dress it up, and the brushed bracelet let’s me wear it in shorts and a T-shirt while throwing a football. I’ve found a beautiful watch that feels like it belongs to me, even if someone owned it before me. I’m excited to make many memories with it and go an amazing adventures with it. With all this being said, I do miss my Seamaster a little bit due to the connection I did develop despite what I disliked about it and it being my first luxury Swiss Made watch. But for now, I’m going to wear the heck out of this Tudor Black Bay 41!
