Collect or Pass?

Stop and read first! I’ve always liked Citizen as a brand, but with mixed feelings about them, but I want us to be objective here.

The watch in question is “The Citizen” AQ4103-16E, in super titanium and is a limited run of just 350 pieces, 38mm gold color Duratect-coated Super Titanium case. Gold leaf washi paper black dial and a three o'clock date aperture. Citizen Caliber A060 with hours, minutes, seconds, date functionality. Accurate to ±5 seconds per year and features perpetual calendar functionality. Additionally, the movement provides a power reserve indicator, insufficient charge warning, energy saving function, shock detection, automatic hand position adjustment, time difference correction, and midnight sharp calendar update function. Equipped with Eco-Drive technology, sustainably powered by any light and never needs a battery. Water resistant to 100 meters. Closed caseback. Brown leather strap. Price: $3,800, but nevertheless, this watch is impressive!

Fantastic watch, but at that price there's stiff competition so I voted "Pass".

These questions are not so cut & dry.

Would I like to collect this piece? Absolutely! It's gorgeous & from a well-established & respected brand.

Will I be able to? Nope.

Budget has a HUGE influence on whether I (or pretty much anyone else) can collect this (or other watches) even if we wanted to collect it.

·

If you like the piece and can afford it, go for it. Citizen is a great brand with significant history and heritage. I have had great experiences with all my Citizen watches.

·

I voted collect as I'm a fan of Citizen. However the price for this one seems a bit high.

·

Definitely collect. If I had the funds I'd definitely get a chronomaster

·

Stylistically not really my thing, but gotta appreciate the workmanship and accuracy. I think it's expensive for what it is (considering my Longines VHP has exactly the same quoted accuracy), but then you're getting the washi dial and titanium as well.

·

Pass only because i do not wear that kind of watches i only wear sport watches that watch only get dust instead of wrist time

·

A bit too expensive for this watch. In my opinion. Looks good though

·

Not this model, but one of the chronomasters is something like a grail to me (Caliber 0100). I'm unsure how to vote here though. For me at the moment, it's a pass. I don't have the funds.

I clicked Pass, my reasoning is I only spend big money on watches I will use often and little money on watches I will rarely use. I never use dress watches, that's why i have a Timex Marlin as my dress watch, But since i wear casual watches everyday (work and personal life). It doesn't bother me to spend on Omega, Tudor, etc sport watches.

If this is a watch you can wear often, maybe even daily i don't see a problem with the price as long as you plan to keep it. I've purchased/sold a few Citizen's and always lose money. Give it a few months, maybe somewhere like Jomashop has a deep discount

·

Would I wear it, hell yes.

Would I pay that much for it, hell no.

Is it worth the asking price, no.

Is it worth half the asking price, definitely.
