Roast my watch!

I got this Invicta Russian Diver a little over ten years ago. The only other watches I had prior to this one were a Timex and a couple of Casio's. I didn't know anything about watches and this one looked cool. It has that little screw down cover over the crown with a chain on it. That was the most awesome thing I'd seen. I had no idea that it's nearly 52 mm. That's a big watch! I wore in a few times and a friend of mine said it looked like a dinner plate. I put it in my desk. Flash Forward to about 9 months ago and I found it cleaning out my desk. It was still ugly but I wanted to change the battery. I changed the battery and found that the band had just rotted off. I got a 25 mm band from Strapsco and now you have the beauty before you. One thing about it is it keeps perfect time. So go ahead roast, mock and make fun of the watch. Do your best!

If I get 25 comments I'll upload a wrist shot.

The crown does make it look like a canteen, but it isn't that bad.  You liked it.  That's enough.

Eyal Lalo's grandma's best design!

Confession, I owned one too a long while ago.  $49.

I looked them up on Amazon they're $100 now. The strap from Invicta is about $60. Pretty sure I paid $50.

But... it's cool though... Like yeah it says Invicta on the dial but come on, a big date and everything?!  That's sweet!

·

Watch must have come to you via chernobyl to have a growth like that on the side.

Shame about it being a dive watch, I was going to suggest throwing it in the ocean but I'm scared it might survive.

Lookong at those lugs, it looks like it's trying to vomit it's own strap off🤮

😂

Feels like something a Bond villain ought to wear, no?  Hide some poison in the crown cover, or twist it the correct number of times in either direction to open a secret lair.

·

That crown cap is wicked

The real question is…. Do you like it? ‘Cause outside of that, it don’t really matter what anyone else thinks….

I did 10 or so years ago. Not now. It's so big. My sweet spot is 38-42 mm. Like I said, it keeps perfect time and the date compilation is cool. That being said I don't wear it but I'm going to keep it. It's fun to look at.

i mean, apart from the clown-sized canteen crown cover, the piano gloss paint job, and the basketball scrap strap what’s not to love? … and, is that…is that a useless coin edged bezel i see?

all in good fun though, this inspires me to post my first watch purchases before putting any effort into getting to know watches.

I saw this guy on YouTube turn a pocket watch into a wrist watch. I would love to turn this wrist watch into a pocket watch. I think that would be awesome. I just don't know where to start.

Hah! yes! At that size turn it into a desk clock. If you were serious about transforming it, I’d probably start with a youtube search and see if anyone else has done this. I’d just hack away with a dremel and get some bondo or epoxy putty and presto-digitoso—canteen clock.

Somebody must have broke into my house and twisted the band!

Exactly! Dremel and a little black nail polish and I'd be go to!

Playing devil's advocate, I have never really understood the hate that Invicta gets. Sure they make some absolute monstrosities and their QVC game rightfully opens them up to endless ridicule, but even their most egregious designs aren't any less tasteful than your average Richard Mille or even the average G Shock.

Don't get me wrong, I don't own any Invicta and don't ever plan to. I just don't understand the level of absolute hate that they receive for their inexpensive, relatively well made budget watches. Plus they own Glycine, and I just can't hate on a brand as inexorably cool as Glycine!

I knew nothing about watches and seeing 75% off was unbelievable. I felt like I got a deal of a lifetime. It just seems a little shady.

Their 1958 diver looks good and if I remember, off the top of my head, doesn't have Invicta stamped all over over the case. My watch is literally an billboard.

·

I have one also. I can't remember when I bought it. But I got it for the same reason. It looked cool. People I worked with once ask if I keep a shot in it. They would ask, "where's the flask at," when I wore a different watch.

If you know better. I think the discounts bring the watch to what it's worth. I don't think the discount is dishonest, but the retail price tag is. They know people love discounts. Funny thing is, from what I can tell, watch people will buy watches if they're priced realistically. No matter the price. Look at Casio.
