Should the hardware on a NATO strap match your watch case color?

I recently bought some cheap NATO straps (unironically from CNS) and didn't even think about the hardware matching the watch case color. Does this bother you? This would bother the heck out of me if this were a leather watch band or a bracelet, but this didn't bother me for NATO straps.

I don’t think the hardware needs to match the case metal but the strap as a whole needs to match the watch as a whole.

Well I think it depends. Black hardware on a silver or bronze watch is okay, but I wouldn't want stainless hardware on a bronze watch.

I've just realized that I can't edit the post any more to change the cover photo.

I agree with @ThirdWatch 100%. I'm not sure if I care about the hardware as much as the strap color scheme needing to match the watch somehow. In the example below, the three straps on the left are meant for this Seagull 1963. The three on the right are for other watches, but I wanted to see if I can mix and match.

I don't see any red on this case or dial. Strap still looks terrific. I think it's all just case by case (no pun indented), and possibly matters more that your watch doesn't look weird when paired with your overall look.

Generally red goes well with black. (See Atlanta Falcons) Also, the red strap has the black threads running through that ties the look together. Also, the strap hardware matches the case. 😉

Agreed. I was taking this poll literally. "Matching" is not the same thing as "goes well together."

You’re likely the only one who will even notice, so if you don’t mind it, I say roll with it.
