What would make your almost-perfect watch truly perfect?

I have a fairly small collection of watches I love. Sometimes I wonder to myself, "if I could keep only one, which would it be?"

Without hesitation, my answer is my Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT (SBGE255).

But if I ask myself, "is it a perfect watch?" I realize it still has room for improvement:

  • I wish it had an on-the-fly adjustable clasp for wrist fluctuation

  • I wish it had a rotating bezel to quickly reference a different time zone against the 24-hour hand, and for the fidget factor

  • A subtle date window frame would have been nice

Who else has a watch that is only a few small changes from their idea of perfection?

I literally picked that watch up this month. I’m still in my honeymoon phase with it and when I actually used the GMT function when I went out of State was pretty awesome. The proportion was pretty much spot on for me which was one of the biggest reasons I got it and that spring drive is just mesmerizing to watch. Kinda wish though the date window was on the 3 or 6 but it’s not that big of a deal.

Nice! Like minds. I don't know if I'm just lucky, but mine runs at a dead stable +0.5 seconds/month, which is just silly. Hopefully you find yours is running similarly after you've had it for awhile

At this point I just wished GS would give the bracelet for this watch 25% of the attention they give the dial and case finishing. I own an sbge253 and havent worn in on bracelet in at least over a year (Horween Chromexcel for the win). Little to no taper that makes it unnecessarily chunky, no on the fly micro adjustments, etc.

One of the reasons my Pelagos 39 has been my daily for a while now. Shame.

I definitely get where you're coming from. Although I typically prefer more taper and a more substantial clasp, I really enjoy this bracelet apart from the lack of tool-free adjustability. I do realize I'm in the minority there. I think the biggest issue GS has with their bracelets, on anything outside of the Sport collection, is that the smallest unit of adjustment available is the length of a half link. That's just too large, and you have to be lucky to get an ideal fit. Between that and pricing, I refuse to take a flyer on anything from the Evolution 9 collection

I miss a date complication on my Clemence.

Other than that it’s perfect.

Good shout. I have a no date diver also. I really like the look, but I always get caught out checking it for the date. Yours is sleek. I've never looked into that brand

If the Black Bay 58 had a T-Fit clasp and a nicely integrated date window, it could possibly be my perfect watch.

It’s a fantastic watch. They’re a relatively new brand and they’re just about to release their first field watch. Tom the owner is a fellow cruncher and he’s made a few posts about it.

A BB58 in burgundy, with a thoughtful date, 5-link bracelet, and T-Fit would be so good.

Sometimes I think brands like Tudor hold back a little to keep one reference from cannibalizing the range

Susannah Hoffs to be wearing it. 😍

Almost a month in and it’s going about 6 seconds fast. Pretty amazing in my book comparing to my other watches.

I would say imperfections give character, so I wouldn’t change the watches that I love, that being said 🤔

Total scratch , shock and water resistance without it being made of resin or plastic 🫣

·

Sexy that I was considering the green but sticking to smaller sizes these days come on gs do me a 38mm 🙄😂

Yes, Susannah. I liked them all, especially Susannah. The tall bass player wasn't shabby either.

And may your watch age as well as Susannah did.

...walk like an Egyptian...

How can anyone pick just one watch? You're all so much stronger than me. I can narrow it down to six. But that's the lowest I can go before my noggin pops.
