My vote goes for Certina. I believe Longines is the „better known“ brand but Certina provides amazing compact sizes. While I was waiting for the 39mm release of Longines, Certina already promoted the 38mm. And the 41mm was way too big and Longines way too late with the 39mm although, gen 1 already was offered with that size. So I pulled the trigger for Certina and the quality is excellent. As an owner of Hydroconquest gen 1 and 2, I have to say that I never had a watch bracelet that catches so many scratches, even while just sitting in the box. The Certina had not any bracelet issues. But I like the idea of having crown and guards, designed like the brand logo on the Longines.

I have the Certina and I enjoy it. It’s noticably smaller than the Longines, even in 39mm. If you like small, go for the Certina.

Considering they’re both made by the same company in the same factories, I think it just comes down to a styling preference and whether you want ETA’s “powermatic” movement or A31. Personally, I prefer the looks and size of the Certina, but I’d go for the Longines with the A31 movement for the the simple reason that it’s at least able to be serviced/regulated and only has 8 fewer hours of power reserve compared to the Powermatic.

Have owned both. The Certina is the better watch.
