And so it begins......

So as I posted recently, this is a new hobby to me but like many others, one which I've lurked around the edges of for a while now.

The collection/modding hobby has begun.....starting with 2 purchases. The one most people seem to start with, a Casio MDV106 Duro to get the modding part started and a rather nice looking (in my opinion) Pagani Design PD1651 dive watch to start the collection..... and maybe modding as it has a NH35a movement.

I know a lot of you will be looking at these and shaking your head...... but I am starting small (and relatively cheap) to make sure I enjoy the hobby..... and also means I can convince my wife that all future watches are of a similar price 😀

Great picks! Welcome to the rabbit hole, good luck with the modding. I haven’t taken the plunge into that aspect of the hobby yet.

They both look like great watches start with. I have 3 Duros and think they are great, functional watches.

What is it that compels you to "mod" these watches?

I think it the price and the availability of parts..... if I break something, I haven't broke a £1000 watch..... they both cost me less than £50 each

You can try building your own from eBay or Aliexpress. Cases start at 20 to 50 USD and movement like 30 bucks and dials it varies. Nothing is wrong with affordable watches and great place to start especially with the Duro. I'm very bias about homages (the curse of the gram and social media) I always see the same old Rolex, Omega, Seiko and Tudor homages. Like where are the cool obscure models 😂.

Well that is on the list of things to do... thought I'd start with some simple mods to the Duro, maybe change strap, swap the crystal to a sapphire one etc, all the ones that have been done loads as there are plenty of instructional youtube videos to help.

But once I'm happy I havent destroyed these watches, I'll branch out and try and build a watch to my own design and see how that goes..... all progress will be posted on here.... including the inevitable failures 😉

More likely to be head nodding than shaking.

Both are great watches.

Enjoy the journey.

Welcome sir. 2 nice looking watches 👍

·

This is not really a shaking of the head site. All are welcome. Great watches, enjoy.

My experience here so far is that nobody will talk down to you or make you feel less for liking the less expensive end of the pool. Most here seem to be enablers lol. At any rate, welcome aboard and enjoy the ride. Please remember to keep your arms legs and tender bits inside the cart at all times.

Do some subtle mods ie sapphire, bracelet etc then buy all the parts and build your own…, there are loads of cases, dials, hands etc available on Aliexpress 👍🏻

Awesome picks, welcome to WC!

And I do mean awesome pieces period- regardless of price or design inspiration. Many on here respect value for money over pure brand/price flex

I just got into the hobby myself last summer and started by buying 2 Walmart watches and a Casio. I then took the plunge with 2 Pagani Design watches. They are a great budget friendly option to find what you like for the future. I think they are worth the money as well.
