Hamilton Pocket watch

This is the watch has the most interesting story in my collection. And it’s all because it’s history, is a mystery. This belonged to my late great uncle, and I found it in my grandparents basement in a box. The case back is inscribed, with a date and two names. The date was from before my great uncle was born, and the names aren’t of any family members. After looking at the family tree, we confirmed that we have no clue who it came from. Hopefully one day I can post an update with the story.

Nice! I still need to have mine serviced, my local watchmaker is open odd hours.

Beautiful heirloom ✅

These were among the greatest watches of their day. This is that era where the United States dominated the watch world and the Swiss sent trade delegations to learn the methods that allowed these to be produced in such numbers. This is your link to the Golden Age.

The decorated movements and intricate cases are just beautiful. More would survive except several depressions and recessions made the gold in their cases too valuable to keep.

American pocket watch movements have pretty much been well-documented and identified based upon serial numbers. That is yours…

Was the dial colour due to a yellowed crystal?

I believe most of these old dials were enamel.

Fascinating.

This is a really cool story.

Shows the depth of all our beloved timepieces in making us feel so many emotions..

Lovely old Hamilton. Hamilton and the other American companies from that period really made cracking good watches.

There are a few pocket watches in my family, unfortunately I don’t know the story behind them.

I do have a soft spot for pocket watches though. I recently acquired several 1800s English fusee pieces. Though to get them running again would be rather quite a chore.
