The Orient Bambino 38 watch just got more classical with a more compact diameter, a small seconds sub-dial and Roman numerals.
Well thanks a lot... until now I was blissfully unaware of that orange NASA G-shock... aaaand now I have to buy one 💸💸💸 haha
Update-- Aw man, it was limited edition and goes for $600+ on the secondary market :/
I think it’s human nature to make judgments on all sorts of things, it’s how we parse our world. I also think you can make judgements without being judgmental.
For example, when you see a particular watch, in addition to gut aesthetic reaction, most of us pull from a variety of positive and negative pieces of data we’ve consciously and subconsciously collected: notable wearers, articles, reviews, collective opinions, a good/bad customer service story you’ve heard, perceived value, positive/negative interactions with people who own one, nostalgia, etc… all factor in. That’s judgment.
In my opinion, as long as you refrain from casting aspersions, ridiculing, or making value judgments of a person because of something like a watch, it’s not being judgmental.
I have an Original Grain wooden watch, it was a gift from my wife back when we were dating. It has a ton of sentimental value, but in all honesty, as a timepiece, it’s too big, the bracelet is very uncomfortable, and it’s overall pretty gimmicky in my opinion.
On the other side of the coin, my buddy is a woodworker, and he bought a couple Holtzkern watches because of the exotic woods. And he loves them.
I’d say, buy what you like, don’t let yourself be overly influenced by some of the snobbery inherent to our hobby, but also know what you’re spending your money on: a watch made of a sub-optimal material for the purpose, usually fitted with a cheap movement, and often a bit overpriced. Caveat Emptor 🍻
This was the first watch I really remember wearing (not my pic). It was a 1990-something Timex Ironman Triathlon. I still remember trips to the mall battery kiosk with my mom to replace batteries from activating the IndiGLO so much. Good times.
I’ve almost bought another on eBay a few times, but I’m kinda waiting out for a NOS, if I can. I’m also not sure how I feel about all the listings for these using “vintage” in the title. I didn’t think I was that old lol
