124270 - a week on the wrist

As with my NWA last week I doubt if I am adding anything new to the story of the Rolex Explorer, but at least it is the opinion of a "normal" person (my wife may disagree with this description). By "normal" I mean that I'm not selling anything or earning any sort of a living from watches etc - I certainly don't think it is "normal" for anyone to spend this much money on a watch.

Positives:

  • Accuracy - it has only lost 3 seconds in 7 days. I'm very pleased with this. I used to be happy with my COSC Longines Spirit 37mm gaining 2 seconds a day but this is at another level (but I suppose it should be given it cost three times as much).

  • Comfort - I'm wearing the bracelet snugger than any of my other bracelets, to the extent that it barely moves, but despite this it is supremely comfortable and I forget I'm wearing it.

  • Stealth - nobody notices this watch. This is a positive for me, YMMV.

  • Emotion - I realise it has only been a week but I know this is my watch for life. We will grow old together disgracefully.

  • Peace of mind - I realise it may not last but I currently have zero interest in buying another watch.

  • Size - I already had a few 36mm watches so I knew this wouldn't be an issue for my 6.5" wrist. The 19mm lug width and aggressive bracelet taper put the focus on the dial and it is the perfect size for me.

Negatives:

  • The clasp only has the 5mm Easylink extension and not the Glidelock tool-free micro-adjust. Even though I am wearing it snug the 5mm extension makes it far too loose. A smaller extension would have been better, Glidelock would make it perfect.

  • I've had to buy a better safe.

This watch was the upside of a week that ended with COVID and an octogenarian parent falling, breaking a hip and getting a replacement. It reminded me that good health and family are the true treasures in life.

Your Laco called.

It asked where've you been?

Good to hear an actual wearing experience. Wear it in good health

I've owned the older brother of yours since 2003... happy wearing this sh%* out of it, only to ❤️ her more with time, dings, scratches... mine still keeps amazing with only 1 service at year 10.

No glidelock may be a deal breaker for me. Do any of the previous Exp 1 have glidelock?

No. Personally I see it as a nice to have, wasn't a deal breaker for me.

I like the taper on this as well, despite it being surprising in person. It’s one method that I like in making the Oyster bracelet more elegant. This is, as of recently, one of two Explorer references that i would love to own one day
