Spring bar tool

Help!!

I’m looking for a spring bar removal tool/tweezers for home use. I want a decent bit of kit - so I do not scratch some shiny and expensive watches - but £140 seems ridiculously expensive for a pair of tweezers.

All advice, experience, horror stories, recommendations, etc are all very welcome. Please do start a concession… 👇🏼

In my experience these are only useful for Rolex watches where you can't access the spring bars with a normal tool. The tips are super narrow on this one so this definitely needs some practice. The regular spring bar tool from Bergeon for just under 30€ or so is worth it, this I only use for Rolex. Straps aren't any easier and I even prefer the normal for most bracelets... What watches are you thinking on using it on?

Rolex 🤣

…as well as more standard watches, like Smiths, Timex, Casio and Citizen.

It works very well with Rolex in my experience... not like you got too much choice with the narrow openings anyway. If you intend to change bracelets yourself or adjust the clasp micro adjust I would get this... it's expensive af but at least you won't be kicking yourself for getting cheapo gear that did a scratch. At least that was my reasoning, it's probably not very good reasoning though.

For the other stuff you should be good with a normal tool, there's probably very well made pliers for cheaper, it's just Rolex who somehow thinks they must have narrower access points, not sure wtf is wrong with them 😐

Maybe AliExpress has something. I found knock off hollow ground screwdrivers, I looked because I couldn't find "proper" ones, which are better than some of the Swiss stuff I have. They weren't exactly cheap for AliExpress standards but about 1/5 of what the Swiss charge. Probably related to the "superfake" stuff, I mean if they can fake a watch they sure can "fake" a bunch of tools...

Strange, I was looking at these only today. I have a couple of Bergeon tools, a normal spring bar tool and a screwdriver. They are of great quality, and replacement parts are available. But £140 is a lot of money. If you change bracelets/spring bars regularly, I’d say yes as an investment in quality. Still put duct tape on the lugs though! 😁

I've been looking at similar tools but with adjustable widths so I can finally feel a little more comfortable with my bracelets. The Bergeron one below is pretty expensive though Horofix makes one for under $100 and it's Swiss made (for what that's worth).

I do not like this style, I prefer the tweezers

I got the knockoff tweezers from Amazon for $20; they work great on Tudor spring bars and others. Reversible tips for different diameter spring bars.
