New Serica 5303 COSC - SOTC Update

It’s finally arrived - the new Serica 5303 COSC diver. Super stoked. I saw the previous iteration on a trip to SFO earlier this year and loved the looks so much I ordered one on the spot. Fortunately, the updated version that was delivered this morning addresses the main issue with this independent diver - the quirky Soprod Newton movement. Its new Soprod M100 caliber should be bullet proof as well as COSC certified. Some of the finishing issues reported with the previous iteration have also been addressed, especially on the bracelet.

So how does the Serica sit alongside the other watches in my collection?

First row from the left:

Rolex DateJust 36mm 16220 (Daily/Neo-vintage)

JLC Reverso Duo Face Small Seconds Large (Office/Travel/Dress)

Rolex Explorer II 39mm 16570 (Daily/Travel)

Grand Seiko SBGY009 40mm (Office/Dress worn on an OEM bracelet)

Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Sapphire Sandwich 42mm (Daily/Active worn on a NATO)

Second row from left:

Grand Seiko SBGT037 37mm (9F Quartz / Adventures - Explorer I substitute worn on a NATO)

Serica 5303 COSC 39mm (Daily/300m Diver)

Unimatic U2 38mm (Beater/300m Diver)

SKX007 42mm - heavily modified by me as a homage to a Yachtmaster on an Oysterflex (Mod/Gym/Active)

Casio G-Shock GW-5000U-1 (Beater/Gym/Active)

I’m planning to take a pause from collecting now. I think steady state has been achieved with most of the food groups addressed.

Fantastic collection 💯

I would love to hear from other owners of this version if in fact all the issues are gone. Congratulations!

The 5303 dropped from my radar after all the problems associated with the previous Newton movement and Serica's stubborn insistence to stick with it. It's good to hear that they seem to have finally fixed them with the M100, but I think I'll wait to hear more feedback before reconsidering this model.

Congratulations ! I have mine for 2 days now, and no issue to report

@jamuszyn @skyblue it’s early days yet, but the replacement movement is silky smooth. No sticking or jitters. Timegraphing is 🎯. Bracelet edge issues are addressed. If you want an indie and like the Serica look, I don’t see any reason not to pull the trigger except the price (of course!)

Very nice. I’m just wondering what you grab when you need a blue dial… lol. JK. Enjoy your collection in peace.

Great collection. 👏 I have yet to dip my toe in the diver pool and this one is on my shortlist. Can't wait to hear how it wears in.
