Lots of cheapies-mid ranger, or few higher-mid watches?

In your collecting journey, do you find yourself tilted towards quantity or quality?

What I mean by this; if you have $2000 to spare, would you buy 2 $1000 (heck, two watches instead of one? Let’s go!), or you’d rather have 1 nicer $2000 watch?

It really depends on what the rest of the collection looks like. If I had 2 $1000, I’d buy 1 $2000. Or visa versa.

In my collecting journey it really became apparent to me that it’s about the watch. My last post yesterday was about a #casio that costs around 20 bucks and how beautiful, accurate and of high atandard it is. I also would love an #alangeandsohne but I won’t spend this much on a watch at this stage of my life. Moreover look at #grandseiko and the quality they offer for the price. They can easily be compared to Swiss watches and in my opinion they win a lot of the time, just like comparing a Swiss watch to another (craftsmanship). And this is why most of my watches are #seiko or SEIKO powered.

Trust me, you will find that the price asked for a watch might not be logical most of the time be it higher or lower than you think the watch deserves.

Quality over quantity

I have been collecting for about 4 years, and i only have 6 watches, and only 3 of them are more "expensive" than the others (casios/gshock)

I firmly believe that personally in my collection journey, its a marathon, not a race. I enjoy wearing what i have currently, while at the same time research and learn more about my tastes as time goes by. I was extremely close to pulling the trigger multiple times on impulse, with cheaper watches like a Presage/Vostok/Seiko 5/hamilton khaki/tissot le loc. But when i look back at the listings i saved, i realised that my tastes have changed over the years and i probably would not wear/enjoy that watch now. This is why i try to limit myself to 1 watch a year (excluding casios/gshocks), to really force myself to research and consider other watches, and not make any impulse purchases that may give me buyers remorse in the end.l

The mistake I made when starting was thinking that quality was the way to go. My opinion is to stick with quality and appreciate what you have

Completely agree with you! I subconsciously compare any watch on the internet or AD to my Seikos. At times I'm so mesmerized by their build quality that I feel a little bit guilty of paying sub $500. Swiss brands have to step up their game in order to keep up their Unique selling point, I suppose.

I am glad the "excluding casio/gshocks" subtext are there. I have to consciously limit myself not to pull the trigger trying to avoid the buyer's remorse.

Thanks for the reminder. It's easy for us to feel the peer pressure in this community. The willpower to hold oneself not impulse buy after seeing the WRUW section is immense!

I believe you meant we should stick to quality. In which, I completely agree

Have a mix and swap around at the lower price range is my view. My current collection consists of:

Going nowhere:

TAG Heuer Monaco

Breitling Superocean Heritage 44

TAG Heuer Monza

Could be sold to fund an addition at any time:

Radio Diastar

Hamilton Khaki Field Bronze

Ball Ohio Moonphase

Ikepod Duopod

Mobtblanc Summit 2

If I had £2k right now I’d probably sell the Ball to add a bit more cash and then add a couple of items from some interesting microbrands, maybe a Farer and a GMT model from somewhere.
