Review of my 15years old Fossil BQ2169

hello crunchers, I've decided to make a quick review of my Fossil BQ2169 that I got as a gift I probably got for my 18years(quite a long time ago, I only remember being my 3 watch I got).

Design : well, strangely enough, it took me quite some time to realise that it is inspired by the Speedmaster, more precisely inspired by the Bulova Lunar pilot. I've always dreamed of owning a Moonwatch, so I went to try the Bulova in a jewellery store while wearing this watch(back then it still had the original brown strap) and the seller that made me realised how similar it is. The dial is similar to the Bulova(not recessed tricompax) and the crystal(mineral I guess) is of a similar fashion. The case is of a more traditionnal design, somewhat closer to a Speedmaster, but do have small crownguards.

Quality : I know Fossils are cheap watches, but I feel the quality back then seemed better than it is today. I do have 3 Fossil, 2 older, one quite recent, and the 2 old ones(one is this one, the other one is my first watch, probably 20years old now), and the new one feels a lot cheaper. This one seems pretty good for a Fossil, no misalligned second hand or markers. Also, the case and crystal seems pretty good since I have zero ding or scratches on it, and it's been a daily driver for many years, and since it's a Fossil, I do not really pay attention, so that good.

Movement, it's a simple quartz, it get the job done, doesn't miss a tik, and is still accurate, I only adjust a little when I change the time twice a year(in Canada we have summer time and winter time), it's more or less a minute every 6months.

Overall, I'm quite happy with this watch. I own it for 15years, been my daily driver for ± 7 years now, I still love it. Shure, my appetite for a real Speedmaster Moonwatch is only growing. It looks like one, but isn't the real deal. As much as I want a Moonwatch, I don't think I'll ever be able to get 10k to spend on a watch, let alone convince myself to doing so. For ± 100$CAD back then, I'm pretty happy for what I have, but I looked the used market for fun, since Fossil doesn't produces it anymore, and so far I've seen crazy prices, something around 300€ for this model. I would highly recommend it if you can find it for dirt cheap money, but for 300€, I think there are better options for this price.

The Bulova Lunar Pilot was introduced in 2016 so This 15 year old couldn't have drawn any inspiration from that.

It appears from the photo that this is one of those mind boggling Fossil chronos that, for some odd reasoning, saw fit to designate the sub dial at 6 o'clock as the chrono seconds hand and use the central seconds as the continuinous seconds, rendering the tachy scale useless.

I never quite understood that.

Don’t properly know the watch, seems a reasonable review! Happy to see it’s not one more five star rating review for a probably decent but otherwise unexceptional watch.

It's looking in good condition for its age and wear, nice 👍

I don't have a recent Fossil, only older ones from the early 2000's, and they're very solid watches.
