Wishes do come true! Now what??????

Ok Crunchers, I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew. I could use your input.

The SKX013 has been on my wishlist for a long while. I wasn't willing to pay the crazy prices online so I convinced myself it just wasn't going to happen.

Then, last week I found what appeared to be a gently used SKX on eBay and the auction was ending within minutes. I made an offer and the next thing you know I'm the proud owner of a SKX013 Diver. I am so excited!

Upon inspection I was pleasantly surprised to find only minor surface scratches and grime. So I disassembled everything except for the movement. I'm not even close to being ready for that. Gentle polishing and soap revealed the beauty of this watch and removed any doubt that I made the right decision to buy it.

A few questions for you. 1. While I have everything disassembled I should replace the gaskets, right? 2. Crystal upgrade to sapphire or keep the original Hardlex? 3. If I swap the crystal should I upgrade to double dome or stay with flat? 4. A/R coating, yes or no?

I realize there are NO simple answers to some of those questions. I'd like your thoughts if you don't mind sharing.

This whole experience has revitalized the love I have for this hobby. I'm thrilled that I have the opportunity to get my hands on this watch. I can't wait to share a wrist shot once I've completed the reassembly.

Thanks to all my fellow Crunchers. Have a GREAT day!

Sounds like a world of pain.unless you have access to all parts be careful. Ifbthe gasket is toast then repalace but other than that clean reassemble. If it aint broke.....

Yes, change the gaskets (why wouldn't you) , & I'd replace the crystal with a flat sapphire with clear AR so it maintains the look of originality but upgraded for toughness.

Good luck mate 👍🏻

Have fun with it! If you want a new crystal, do it. If you shop for the crystal you will notice pricing differences and that might make the decision for you. Ar can affect you color scheme in either unwanted or awesome ways.

Yes I'd do the gaskets and probably do the crystal as well. I'm not the biggest fan of domed crystals so personally I'd stick with flat and a clear AR. Not sure where you're ordering parts from but if you use namokimods you can use KELLAN5 to get a bit of a discount.

Thank you, everyone! I really appreciate your feedback!

1. While I have everything disassembled I should replace the gaskets, right?

Yes. Except the crystal gasket, lubricate the gaskets with Seiko silicone grease. This increases longevity.

2. Crystal upgrade to sapphire or keep the original Hardlex?

Sapphire

3. If I swap the crystal should I upgrade to double dome or stay with flat?

Flat. While I love dome, I like an SKX013 to keep its original look.

4. A/R coating, yes or no?

Yes, but clear AR. Crystal times and Namokies has you covered.
