Seiko Red Urushi Review❤️

Seiko SPB395 Intro Final piece of my six-watch complete collection. I have been targeting a red dial to complement my collection and this watch made me forego Oris big crown red which I had priorly designated as my grail and made me broke my one brand one watch rule. How did it achieve this? Simple, it is the dial. Dial It is handcrafted with a special technique by Japanese “urushi master”. It is a lacquered red dial and also the watch is a limited edition one. The tone of the red is perfect and the little gold touches complement it beautifully. Red, white and gold; not too heavy not too soft. Watch looks both dressy and daily. Watch has applied Roman numerals. Normally I prefer Arabic numerals but these white applied ones look good. Has an inner AR coating and lacquered dial shines in the sun. Finishing The case has a spot-on size at 40.3 mm as between 39-41mm is perfect my wrist. Case material is super hard coated steel. Casa is just a bit thicker than average presage as its movement has more complications than average. Th strap is calf skin and very soft while also giving a quality feel. Strap color is dark brown and it doesn’t overshadow the dial. It has a three-fold deployment clasp and doesn’t bother the wrist at all. Also, the sapphire is a dual curved and sharp looking one but If I were Seiko, I would definitely use double AR coating to let this unique dial shine. The water resistance is 10 bar which is very decent for this kind of watch. Movement and complications It’s Seiko 6r24, has a 45-hour power reserve. On the dial there is a power reserve indicator, retrograde day and date functions. Looks a bit crowded but I define it as the “Chaotic Beauty”. Movement is nothing too special in terms of +- per day and I would like to see around 70 hours of power reserve on this price range but I have to admit 3 complications 2 of which special retrograde functions limits the possibilities. Also, the idea that I would need to set these functions in the mornings before work made me buy a watch winder immediately as the watch deserves it. Summary I wanted a beautiful red dial and this watch provides even more than that. Looking forward to wearing it for the rest of my life.

Thanks for taking the time to do a nice writeup! This is definitely one of Seiko's best offerings, and as we know there are only so many red watch dials out there it is all the more special for it.

I love the color of the dial but I have so many reservations regarding Seiko quality control (I bought a lemon Seiko 5) that I could never buy it.
