Seems like “sports watch” includes everything that doesn’t look like a classical dress watch and which one can put in water. A dive watch is pretty firmly in the “sports” category.

Nah, dive watches are in divers. Fleigers are pilot watches. As are GMTs.

Sports watches are a separate category. Think Rolex Explorer I, Tudor Ranger, Smith's Everest, Second Hour Mandala, Sinn 556, Omega A-T, Seiko SARB, Citizen Chronomaster, etc

I think it’s hard to not classify diving as an authentic or sporty activity.
