๐Ÿšจ New Watch Alert ๐Ÿšจ Cuervos Y Sobrinos ๐Ÿšจ Historiador Hemmingway GMT ๐Ÿšจ

A few years ago I came across a brand; Cuervos Y Sobrinos. This was a brand out of Havana, Cuba at one time. What drew me to the brand was their style of watches and beautiful dial patterns and colors.

I am not really into dress watches (only have 3), so despite loving their watches I never felt like one would fit into my collection, that is until they released their new Historiador Hemmingway GMT "The Fisherman". This model was inspired by Hemmingway's novel The Old Man And The Sea.

This variant is the sportiest of the three versions which I lean towards. The dial color is a very attractive blue that changes it's hue in certain light settings. You can see faint striations on the dial as well. The watch has a slight domed sapphire crystal giving the watch a more high-end look.

This Historiador has an open case back with a sapphire crystal. The Marlin "H" logo which Hemmingway conceived himself is visible via the open caseback. Actually a very nice touch. The watch comes on both a Cordura fabric textile strap in blue with nice stitching on a folding deployant clasp, as well as a steel metal bracelet. I swapped out the steel bracelet for the Cordura strap in August to finish out the summer. The strap and bracelet come on quick-release spring bars making it easier to swap between the two.

Another nod to Hemmingway is a quote that is laser cut vertically into the inner steel peripheral ring around the dial. On this Historiador GMT "The Fisherman" their is a quote that reads: "Every day is new day, it is better to be lucky". At the six position the engraving is in spanish.

Powering the Historiador is a Swiss Made Soprod C125 automatic movement that Cuervos Y Sobrinos calls its caliber CYS 8122. The C125 operates at 4Hz with a power reserve of 48 hours. The watch has a water resistance of 100 meters.

The Fisherman is 40mm and is 11.75 mm thick with what the brand calls "robusto" lugs. They are large and protrude out giving the watch a very distinctive appearance. It's more prevalent and noticeable on the Cordura strap. They are simply beautiful lugs! The Historiador came in a leather bound case that looks just like a book that can be put into a book case. Impeccable packaging! Lastly, only 1 of 288 produced.

Excited to have a Cuervos Y Sobrinos as part of my collection.

Been following the brand for sometime. The Robusto Churchill Yalta is the one I keep eyeing.

That is a unique piece. Never seen it before. Thought the best Cuban imports were cigars, baseball players, rum and good looking women. Add watches to that list๐Ÿคฃ

Thanks for another excellent write up. The watch is gorgeous. I especially like the dial work and engravings. The emblem at the top takes it to an 11 for me. Well done, sir. Enjoy it in good health.

What a beautiful watch as a tribute to Hemmingway! The Old Man and the Sea is a classic! The leather bound case was a really nice idea!

Thank you kindly ๐Ÿ™. From what I understand the Grandson who runs the foundation will only let Cuervos Y Sobrinos use his name. Based on what I've read he lived in Cuba for 20 odd years and used to stop by the boutique often...becoming good friends with Ownership. Great story/history.

It's good to know they were friends, I knew he lived there in the 40s and 50s. Great history! Thanks for sharing!

Man, nice taste! I've had their 1946 chrono on my radar as an expensive aspirational piece to get. The brand is under the radar, which I like. Badass.

Oh my God! You bought the Hemmingway from Cuervos. First of all, congratulations on the new watch. Second, is it as good in person as it looks online?

Better in every way. Still leaning towards the Cordura strap due to the color, texture and lastly the juxtaposition of the strap and case that let you really understand how beautiful the lugs are. Thanks Tariq!

I agree with you about the strap. And those lugs are crazy good looking. Enjoy the watch.
