Grand Seiko sporty dress watch, the SBGX057 review
The SBGX057 was released in the late two thousands, a sporty dress watch with oversized guards protecting a GS crown on a 37 mm diameter run on the proven 9F62 quartz movement accurate to plus or minus 10 seconds a year for a battery lasting the good part of three years.
Back then, Grand Seiko was a collection from the Seiko; hence, both monikers were borne on the dial. Talking of the dial, this is a real showstopper: grey sunburst with a subtle blue hue seen in function of the amount of light available. Absolutely stunning!
The case shape is polished, brushed and sized to perfection, so on my wrist, comfort is the name of the game, and that is what is being delivered in spades by the SBGX057. For some reason, this model evokes brutalist architecture in me. The lug width stands at 19 mm; having been a GS owner for a while, I confess I have a bundle of straps in my box; Nubuck and Croc are weapons of choice.
The SBGX057 is a dressy sports watch, so my only gripe is the lack of lume, but as many know, GS' polishing is deep, so it partly compensates for it. Unfortunately, this watch is part of my rotation, but I have worked from home for the past two to three years or so, so this is not the most tracky bottom-appropriate (I will probably go to the office more often for the coming months, so this might help who knows). Joking aside, I do not wear the watch as often as I used to, so it might have to go at some point. I know what I might go for already; I previously owned the black dial model and intend to reacquire it in its spring drive version.

That's a sleek looking watch. I am working my way towards getting a GS (or two). Might need to add this to my list of possibilities.
