Saying Goodbye: "Neo Tokyo" Casio G-Shock 6900 Series DW-6900BMC-1

I let go of my "Neo Tokyo" G-Shock today, and I'm feeling fine with the decision.

To give the watch it's "real" name, the Black x Neon Series launched in Japan in 2019 with four G-Shock watches with blacked-out bezels and neon accents.

They were quickly called 'Neo Tokyo' models.

I really liked the idea of owning a G-Shock in general, as I didn't have one. And this one, that was all blacked out, but had little colourful accents (that weren't overly bright), really appealed to me.

But, do you know what? In practice, I hardly ever wore it.

Partly because all these occasions where I thought, "A G-Shock would be great for {insert activity here}..." I ended up wearing some other watch, or no watch at all. Might sound weird, but I couldn't get into the habit of wearing it.

This wasn't helped by the "reverse" LCD which, frankly, I couldn't read in daylight. I know my picture, above, makes this claim seem ludicrous. But what you don't know is that to get that shot, I had to stand in the shade of the house and angle my wrist very deliberately for the camera. Even as I was taking it, the screen looked black to me.

Indoors it was even sometimes hard to read without turning the watch light on. And sure, it looked cool, lit up blue with the light on... but surely you should be able to read your watch easily in the daytime, inside or out, and I just struggled with this.

So I've let her go back into the ocean of watches out there. Hopefully the new owner is really into G-Shocks and/or has better eyesight than me and just adores his new watch. I really hope so. It just wasn't the right one for me.

Understand that totally.

If you don't wear it move it on.

I had a g shock with the negative display and it was a bugger to read.

Only at certain angles could you read it .

With a little splash of colour that’s basically the Neo Tokyo!

The negative display on some are rubbish, but on others are fantastic. I have a GBD 200 and that is great and can be read in low light even. Sorry you got a duff one.

I'm not sure there's a problem with it, per se, it's just how it is. Keep in mind there are three general types of LCD in the G-Shock range - TN, STN, and MIP. Some better than others.
