Most of my current collection is stainless steel and I have been wanting to try a new material for some time. None of the ceramic watches I’ve tried have done of for me. I had seen pictures online of the IWC ceratanium watches, but never had much interest in them. I assumed they were just another iteration of a ceramic watch. I happened to see this one in person and it totally changed my mind. The ceratanium has more of a metallic look and feel as opposed to ceramic. It is a titanium alloy, but the way they pressurize it and kiln fire it gives it a scratch resistance similar to ceramic. I also love the color. In the pictures it looks like it’s just a blacked out version of the pilot’s chronograph, but it is more of a dark grey color, not just a matt black as you would see in the ceramic top gun versions. I’m loving this watch so far and I’m very impressed with IWC’s use of this novel material.

Congrats on the new piece! I seriously looked at the ceratanium but finally opted for the Spitfire Chrono, partially because I couldn’t try the ceratanium on in person first. Love that hybrid nylon/rubber strap too. 🤌

Thanks! I was lucky that they had just gotten one in when I was at the boutique. I never would have bought it if I hadn’t seen it in person. I love the spitfire as well. Yes, the strap is great, super comfortable too.
Congrats! Very good looking black on black watch. Enjoy!
Ceratanium is a really cool innovation from IWC. I had a chance to get hands on with 1 and it looks and feels great.
