  • No. 88 Momento Mori Ox Blood - Special Edition

I have to start with my first interaction with this watch, the packaging. It came beautifully packaged and with obvious care. It came in a custom shipping box sealed and wrapped in twine. Once you broke into that it was in a lovely little black box filled to the brim with not only charm and personality but also tons of nice little notes and descriptions. When I finally was able to see the watch, I was delighted to see that it was already set to my time zone. That’s something I love about smaller brands, it’s the little bit of extra love they tend to put into their products.

The dial is one of the most strikingly beautiful ones I’ve ever seen while still keeping in line with the classy vintage look that they were going for. I really love the way the rose gold highlights and embossed finish pop on the otherwise black piece.

The details on the case and crown are a very nice touch. Not to mention the ox blood leather NATO strap which seems to be of relatively good quality.

For as much as I love this watch it’s not all perfect. The strap has some issues. Being a dark red, it somewhat limits the wearability with certain outfits, however, that is something a simple strap swap could fix. It was very rigid when I first received it but after a little bit of wear and breaking it in, it wears a lot more comfortably. The first time I wore it in humid weather it left an orange stain on my wrist, no doubt from the dye in the leather strap. That only seemed to be a one time occurrence for me though. The strap also causes some minor overhang on the wrist. It’s just the strap and by no means does it make it look too big for your wrist. It also has their own vintage style lugs which basically means you can only really wear this model with NATO straps.

It comes with a Japanese Quartz movement which is completely fine and will last a while and be accurate but it’s also nothing special.

Luckily if any of this bothers you others models of this watch exist that essentially get rid of all these concerns. They have models with more standard lugs if you don’t like NATO straps and various other straps of different materials and colors. They also have a version with an automatic Swiss movement if it’s something you are interested in. Unfortunately that model was a bit out of my price range.

Overall I am very happy with this watch and it is one of my favorites. Highly recommended.

  • Beautiful dial
  • Striking design
  • Feels well made
  • Leather strap left a red stain on my wrist first time wearing it in humid weather (hasn’t happened since)
  • Leather strap causes slight hangover (not of the watch, just the strap. Perhaps other straps would alleviate the issue)
  • Vintage styled lugs means you can only really wear this model with NATO straps

Thanks for the write up. On the rare occasion I go into the office it's only 10 minutes walk from their shop, but so far every time I go round the doors are firmly shut.

The fixed wire lugs will work with the leather 2-piece things that you have to glue yourself, which presumably come in the 20mm that I think this takes. Or a friggin bund strap, if one is into that. The case back is so much nicer than any silly display glass, and the filigree on the case side is a really nice touch too. Nice boots too.

I hope that all know the entirety of the Latin on the back, particularly seeing how tempus fugit is a Longines thing as well as both being classic headstone inscriptions.

Nice write up, been looking for a subtle piece like this, that isn't this..... 😂.

That’s a shame. If you ever get the chance pop inside, they got some pretty nice designs.

Ooh. I hardly see any write ups about the Camden Watch Company. I chanced upon the shop in Camden market on my trip to London last yr and left with 3 watches (no. 29, Camden LE , no. 88 and no. 24) Probably cos i met Jerome and his passion for their designs are contagious. LOL. The watches r definitely interesting little pieces & I agree with you about the rigidity of the strap but they do break in with wear. Enjoy your purchase 🙂

They do seem very passionate about their watches and that’s exactly what drew me in
