MRW 200H-7 & Am I facing a dusk of collecting desire, and if so does my final watch need better lume?

So...

I've long had a low level inferiority complex about the lume on my watches. Why, I ask, does Casio not lume the heck out of one or two budget analogs, where basically lume is the only feature. I can't really afford to keep making stabs in the dark, so to speak, so I am trying to crowd source the question. In the meantime, I have my lineage m100 which has quite good lume

and I have a MRW 200H-7

(expected delivery some time), which has usable lume or so I am told. I also have the auto light on a G-Shock

that is really not bad-- but also not quite the same, either.

Getting down to it, what are your thoughts on my incoming watch's lume? Will it be useful or gimmicky-- or it even really lumed? Thoughts on other faithful watches with an hour -- or whatever is reasonable -- of lume, and that won't break any bank? #ennui #duskofmycollecting

I find lume to be very handy, so I get where you're coming from. Might I suggest looking for a used Marathon, like a GPQ or Navigator? The tritium tube lume won't blow you away, but it is always working.

If I could offer my opinion as an old bloke (56). Lume, lovely as it is, is a blur to me now when I need it in the middle of the night with no glasses. Choose your watch because of how it makes you feel, lume or no lume, do what you are attracted to both in darkness and in light. Here endeth the lesson. LOL

I will check them out. Thanks!

At those price points it’ll be hard to have everything and most of the time lume is going to be a compromise to cut costs down.

Seiko, Citizen and many other brands in that price range will give you outstanding lume.

Tritium would be an alternative as it always glows (well for about 20-25 years) being radioactive. The Marathon navigator is a great budget friendly choice as the GSAR has skyrocketed in the pas few years!

I suspect the MRW will disappoint you. It is nice watch but a lume monster it is not.

Thanks for the reply. I'm enjoying it during the day despite the second hand misalignment lol, and by night the hour and minute hands stay visible at least for a while (will do more tests soon) -- so I bought some lume to add a 12 o'clock dot on the bezel. Wish me luck.

Has your MRW200 arrived yet? If so, I'm sure you'll realize the Lume isn't that great. Still an enjoyable watch though. Personally speaking, by the time the Lume is ready to shine, I'm in my bed sleeping, so it doesn't bother me 😴

I guess my expectations are lowish but I got it and I think the hand lume is okay if not great, but the face lume is insufficient. My plan is to add some uv glue and lume powder to a few of my watches, including this one. I'm pretty excited about it all. I also enjoy the 200h, though I was hoping for something I could easily check late at night without waking up the spouse.

UV glue & Lume powder.. 🤔

Love to see how it turns out when you get round to it

If it looks great or pretty good or hideous I'll probably share it lol.
