Hello Watch Friends 🙏
BUYING A SECOND-HAND WATCH
On here I see plenty of people who are looking at grail watches like a post from @Nopito77 and it got me thinking about birth watches or a second-hand watch they like. This made me think when you buy second-hand do you ever wonder “the life” before….
Where it came from?
Who had it?
Where it’s been/travelled?
What it’s been through!
What it’s seen!
It’s not just something that tells the time and looks nice, it’s a memory bank on your wrist, it see’s things you see and what you don’t see.
Has that watch you have bought from eBay, Chrono24 or any of the other second-hand markets out there, been with a film star, actor, sportsman/woman, been in the limelight and you just don’t know about it.
Has it seen War, a famous event, a tragedy. What’s your thoughts?
Thank you Ben

I love the back story on people’s watches on WC, especially the beat up old ones that have seen people through years and years, the history of a watch makes it far more interesting. With a used watch it is almost impossible to know unless the seller has informed us. When I sell a watch (not often) I always give its back story. I do this because of the reasons you mentioned. I don’t think it increases its value or anything like that, but I hope the buyer is interested. I would love to know that my new second hand watch spent its life in Wisconsin on the arm of doctor etc.

Thank you Paul, yes I’ve a few old watches from second hand markets and sometime wish I knew who that person was and what’s happened to the watch, it’s all just a fantasy isn’t it, a doctor eh, would you have liked to have been a doctor?

No chance lol, I should have used a better example like a lumberjack and a Cartier Tank 😂
Nice post Ben 👍 I see some beat up divers, or field watches and wonder🤔
I know one thing about the owner of my last vintage purchase, he never cleaned his watch⌚, I probably have enough of his dna for cloning. 😁
