Grail achieved!

Concord has been completely off my until very recently (frankly, their current watches aren't my cup of tea either), but I was gifted a vintage Saratoga SL not long ago and then saw the Mariner SG, which happened to be one of their most iconic watches. The poster boy of the brand is the same watch but with an 18K bezel but I wanted this watch to be in full steel and I found this a bit scuffed but in working condition.

I love this watch, it's everything I wanted it to be 😭

That would have made my search much easier 😭🤣

I bought a 14kt Concord moonphase with a quartz movement from the agent who was visiting a friend’s ad during the late 1980s, watch was not special, eventually sold it to a pawnbroker who was relocating his business to Miami. A few years later man was visiting Toronto, we met for a fast lunch, tells me that gold Concord watches were being bought and sold as “melt”! I wanted to recuse my watch but the fates were unkind. I was too late watch would feel nice on my wrist today. I

I'm not sure what melt means in this context, you mean they melt down the gold to sell it? That's unfortunate, yeah even with my other Concord (saratoga SL) it took me a little while before I truly appreciated it. Vintage Concords are special in my book

They were melting the cases for the gold content. I admit the quartz Concords in the 80s and 90s were good looking watches but not exactly for enthusiasts. Decades later time is kinder.

I think they're quite a catch for someone who wants a stylish vintage watch that's something a little different to the staple vintage quartz JDM watches (Seiko, Orient, Citizen, etc). I've grown to like small and slim quartz watches, there's something nice about something with classical styling, that can keep fairly accurate time and in the same time vastly lower maintenance than something mechanical. Those have there place too, but to each their own

Of course the hobby can support many different opinions. My wife prefers the convenience of stylish quartz watches including some Cartiers, and a handful of late 80s Hermes bracelet watches. I am not offering the quartz movements as a major negative issue but a few movements did need to be trashed, replaced with movements equal to the originals mostly ETA off the shelf. The movements were not damaged with leaking batteries, some other factors. Did her watches lose some relevance? She feels that they did, no longer a token just a watch after switching movements.

Your Concord looks amazing, congrats!

YES!! Congrats!! 🎈🎊🎉 I love the Concord Mariner, and it’s also a grail of mine!

I found this 1994 (my birth year!) Mariner SG500 in an antique store for an absolute bargain. I am still absolutely floored. The build, fit, and finish are absolutely out of this world.

You're a whole 10 years younger than me, and yes that's an absolutely killer watch I've seen you post it a few times!
