Sick Seiko

Just one more example- to join all the others- disappointed at an expensive Seiko watch with a SPB 131J1 and a 6R35 movement that is sick at heart. If this were a car, there would be a recall and new items issued. It is time Seiko admitted there is a problem with eh 6R35 and made moves to fix it. Charging more and offering less in not an option for success in this competitive market. My "cheap" Steeldive NH35 is better regulated than this, and St. Martin now wipes the floor with Seiko. Now I have to send it back and wait weeks for repair. Thanks Seiko. When "cheap" Chinese watches have better quality control than you do, it's time to wake up?

Did you check to see if it was magnetized?

That watch is magnetized

Seiko will regulate it for free under warranty. Not sure a Chinese brand can be relied on for that. But before that, you should verify not magnetized as my colleagues suggest.

The problem I’ve found with the 6R35 is that it is remarkably inconsistent in its inaccuracy. It can be +1sec one day, -17 the next, +25 the day after. That makes it challenging to regulate.

It’s does seem to settle if worn consistently, though. After about 2 weeks of daily wear, it will settle to a consistent error. Of course, that’s not much good if the watch is part of a daily rotation

I’m not a movements snob by any means but I’d shy away from any future watch with a 6R35in it. For the moment though, I consider it part of the watch’s quirks and charm.

:-) my first thought too. But no, not magnetized.

Great idea. I tried this but no success. I am giving it a full week on wrist to see if it “settles”. But should not be an issue for a watch at this price point.

Nope 👎 it’s a new watch and never dropped. It’s the movement. Face up runs up to 60secs per day. Face down can be as low as 6-8 seconds. Other orientations in the low twenties to thirties. It’s going back for service under guarantee. Thanks for all your help!

I’ve got a 6R35 that keeps better than 2 seconds a day since getting regulated by Seiko. Quite happy with that. 🍻

Update. Sent back for repair. Came back repaired after a month. Good service. Good communication. Now well within specs.
