I can’t use sunscreen on my solar watches!!! 🤣

Batteries in solar watches like to stay charged to keep their charging capacity, so used to occasionally expose my Casio Tough Solar and Citizen Eco-Drive watches to sunlight to keep them charged. But even though these watches are designed to withstand direct sunlight, radiation always damages plastics and heats metal parts.

Such was my concern that I decided to install LED lamp strips inside the cabinet where I store all my watch cases leaving the solar ones on the top with the light always on. I've noticed for some time now that they keep the charge indicator at 'high' without the risk of damaging their plastics cases and straps.

Regards,

Al

Love the set up!!

Not very economical or ecological.

Just leave them in indirect sunlight and they will be fine.

Energy consumption of these led lamps is extremely low. Even less than my night lamp. Thanks!

I have the solar Bluetooth Casioak and honestly I kinda regret it. My apartment and workplace don’t get much direct sunlight, and even my lamp for seasonal affective disorder doesn’t do much to charge it.

I don’t know how long batteries on the non-solar 2100s last, but at least I wouldn’t have a power reserve indicator giving me anxiety.

Sweet set up.

That is slick!

It's clever and looks professional! Personally, I never worried about the UV wearing things away, and I guess my better solar watches will probably fare okayish in the medium-low sunlight I give them, but recently I did have my 5 years old "tough" Timex Expedition digital (non solar) resin

strap just split in 2 after sitting in the sun regularly for the past year. I only just touched it. Indirect light is perhaps also ideal but to manage to keep them charged concerns me as well.

·

Wow!!! That is the ultimate consolidation of 4 watch collection. By that I meant 4 watch box collection 😂

Really love the setup!

Thanks for sharing…even indirect sunlight evwtually will cause them harm similar to what you're showing us.

I can confirm that. It's exactly how I keep my Eco-Drive and Tough Solar watches. Has been fine so far.

Is that cabinet custom? I will need to buy it and justify the purchase with a solar. Nicely done!

I suspect the LED strip light in this chap’s watch case is not high on the list of his carbon contributions.

That’s a very impressive collection you have, how many yrs did it took?

As much as we don’t want to admit it, we’re all probably doing way more damage by buying multiple watches made of coal-smelted steel or titanium, and shipped overseas on oil-powered ships.

In this space, the one company that’s probably doing the least ecological damage is Rolex with its artificial scarcity. 😅

For my two solar watches, a Citizen Promaster Navihawk A-T and Seiko Coutura Solar, I place them under a full spectrum LED lamp on an Aerogarden. About 8 hours under that light when it’s already on during the day and the watches get a full charge that lasts for weeks before the power reserve dial drops

I'm a plant person so I just chuck my solars under a plant light now and then. I have lights that kick out 70,000 lux easy and don't make the case any warmer than it would get on my wrist on a sunny day. A dedicated watch box light is a cool idea, but what I'm really curious about is how you manage to wear 64 watches! 😯

Thanks for asking....I usally change two or three times my watch during the day as mood changes lol*....But now that I found this app, I´m creating my WatchCrunch database using the WRUW option stating the most important aspects of the watch...model, caliber, WR and light feature. Sometimes I upload three watches in a single day...

Thanks! pal!

I wouldn’t worry too much. The tough solar battery can last up to 6 months if placed completely in the dark. Just keep it out in indirect sunlight and wear it every now and then and you’ll be fine.

Yes...but it is my understanding that rechargeable batteries like to have energy flowing to keep them happy...anyway, you are right...its my obsessive compulsive need to have them ready when needed...🤣

Not many...here is the story.... I used to have arround 15 watches back in 2018 but unfortunately a Colombian gang entered my house while I was attending the Blade Show in Atlanta (I collect also knives 😬). As a matter of personal revenge (which has come as an obsession), not only did I replace the stolen ones, but started buying the watches that I love (not always the expensive ones).Unfortunately never recovered the ones that had sentimental value for me. So I could say 5 years since that event. Thanks for asking..

Well...it is true we have to be more conscious about our environment. This brings to my mind the Swatch release of the Fifthy Fathoms...braging about a recycled strap form fishermen's nets (really?) but forgot to make the watch serviceable!! So yes...it is important to see how we contribute to a better planet. I bike 12 miles to work every day which makes me feel good...

Yes...and fortunately changing damaged rechargeable batteries on Citizens is no big deal...
