NATO Strap Size

I can't wait to see the snarky replies on this one.

I like to use NATO straps that are 1-2mm larger than the lug width, even if a perfect fit is possible. This example is 22/20.

Does anyone else do this? Or am I solitary in my insanity?

I like it that O&W is overlooked or unknown by most. If I were to be restricted to just 1 watch, this may be it. Prost!

Is there a reason you prefer the wider straps over the correct fitment? Just curious, because I'll do this if there isn't a NATO or perlon not available in the lug width I need, like a 19mm or 16mm. Some are available, but of course, at a higher price.

if it’s a stop gap or because you have one gathering dust then fine, but otherwise this is very odd

My reasoning is that it is more comfortable as it distributes the weight over a greater area; it's sort of amazing how an extra mm or 2 will change how a watch feels on the wrist. Also, some watches, in my opinion, seem to be more visually pleasing with a little extra width in the strap (this OW is a good example as it has really long lugs that strap overlap seems to break up in a pleasing way). So there we go, 2 validations of lesser or greater logic. Thanks for replying.

Haha you’re crazy for this one but wear in good health!  Not for me but if you enjoy it, then that’s all that really matters here.

I think it looks great, it takes away from the long lugs on these OW 😎🤙 .

Here mine with a Barton navy blue NATO ⌚🙌.

Usually use 20mm on a 21mm lug. Next time, I'll try using 22 and see what happens.

Great idea, thanks!

For some, an extra 2mm might make all the difference. Sorry. I'll get my coat

Barton strap here as well. I have the same size and color as you have there. It doesn't work on much (wierd hue of blue), but when it does...well done!

Sorry bud.  You’re on your own on this one. 😉

That said, your wearing your watches for you and it doesn’t matter a lick what other people think. 👍

There may be a point to going a size up on the strap for non-standard lug sizes. With a narrower strap, I’d be worried about it sliding around too much and inadvertently pulling back one of the pins on the springbars.

Also, I feel like screaming everytime I see that pic of Sean Connery’s Rolex on that much too narrow NATO from Goldfinger.
