NWA: Leaning into the "Dad Watch"
I picked this up last week after coming across a deal that was too hard to pass up (haven't we all?). This watch was not on my radar at all but I've wanted to check out Zodiac for a little while and it looked fun. And it was a good deal. Did I mention that? I fully expected this to be a watch I have for a few weeks or months and then either trade down the road (my favorite way to obtain watches) or sell.
After a few days, I am shocked by how much I am really digging this watch. I'm 36 years old with 2 kids but two-tone watches, for me, have been old-man/dad watches. Probably because my dad has worn a two-tone DJ daily for the past 20 years. Definitely not something I've been actively considering.
This zodiac is gold PVD, so it's not precious yet feels a bit more formal than a typical GMT. The two tone is surprisingly subtle and not garish. The size is spot on for my 6.75" wrist. The pop of red on the GMT hand really makes it for me and pulls the design together. As for quality, I'd put it on par with Christopher Ward with an inferior bracelet (push pins I don't mind but the lack of on-the-fly microadjust is not ideal).
A common question that gets brought up in WIS circles is about a watch that "surprised you" and I've never had a good answer...until now.

It's a really good looking watch! I used to wear a two-tone watch when I was about 12 (this was the 80s!), and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. It fitted with the times. I wonder if I will again?

I am 38 with twin 21 month olds, currently wearing a pair of white New Balance... I have really been looking at two tone stuff lately..... I get the dad watch vibe.

Do all Dad's of a certain age (adult children) have 2 tone DJs? It was the watch of the 80s for young upwardly mobile professionals (if only there was an acronym for that).
Love your watch and the fact that 2 tone watches might be coming back. I'm switching my Tudor GMT for my late 80s 36mm DJ (2 toned of course) right now.
