Luxury watches that will increase in value

This is my take on watches that will hold their value or increase in value in the upcoming years. This is also a test run of doing research on some of the most searched things in the watch space right now and using them in my tile, being “ luxury watches” and “ watches that will increase in value”. I am trying to see if I will have more views on this video than average. Some of my videos get only dozens of views while others get houndreds, others get thosands, and some get tens of thosands. I don’t understand the algorithms and wanted to test out using more specific wording. Please consider watching the video, giving it a thumbs up, commenting on the video, and subscribing to the channel. I know that all of that helps out the channel and I really appreciate it.

This is what's wrong with the hobby. Just enjoy your watches and don't worry about future value. Life is short - your wife or children might even end up selling your watches at an estate sale or for what you've told them you paid once you're gone 😊 Their true value is the joy that you experience strapping a watch on your wrist and sneaking glances at it all day!

Right? People have gotten so wrapped up in value and have totally forgotten to appreciate the beauty of things that bring us happiness.

I agree with just enjoying the watches, like I said this is an experiment based on what YouTube told me are current trends.

You can appreciate watch making and horological but also be cognizant that some watches do in fact increase in or hold value. It is just a fact like the Covid vaccine is safe and effective and in no way causes myocarditis

I know all about YouTube trends, especially being tempted to jump onto them. 100% nothing against you or your channel. Everyone on YouTube, and I include myself here, is in danger of running a race straight to the bottom.

I get the sense of not understanding the algorithm; I'm right there with you. If I do a simple Gruen service, it gets 250k views. I custom-built a dial from scratch, which was a lot of work. It gets 40k views, and YouTube itself is driving the race to fast-pass clickbait content. It's a tough line to walk.

Seriously, good luck with the channel; it's bloody hard work!

The problem with this is that the watch trade has been in a speculative bubble for some time now. Bubbles pop; just look at coins, comic books, sealed video games, etc. What's going to happen is that a lot of people who should not and would not normally have invested in watches will end up broke. The true speculators. The people who simply buy up watch stocks and store them will walk away with the money, and normal people will be left holding the bag.

Price is not being driven by consumer demand; it's being driven by speculators. Companies like Rolex respond to this by lowering supply and raising prices, forcing a lot of people out of the market. So some watches at the moment hold there value; some will go up, but sooner or later the bottom will drop out of the market. 20 odd years ago, I passed on a Daytona for $3k, and my dial restorer turned down a sub for 700 CHF. Bubbles tend to pop really quickly.

Not to mention the fact that when goods are sold to speculators, not collectors and enthusiasts, the quality tends to start to drop. Rolex could drop a $2 Chinese movement into there subs right now. All that would happen is that the price would increase if they lowered the supply because half of them are being sold to people who don't care what they are buying; they are trying to make money. See the copy of Mario that went for 2 million usd I'm almost 100% sure that was not a video game enthusiast.

My 2c for what it's worth on why watch enthusiasts tend to get annoyed at this sort of content.

In what way is that a fact?

Like any asset a watch's value may go down as well as up. And past results are not an indicator of future performance.

Every Rolex submariner ever sold from 1954 to now sells for higher than its original retail price yes or no?

Love it! Slap the purists and they scream 🤣

See above. Past results are not an indicator of future performance.

Markets change. Tulips and stock in the South Sea Company kept appreciating until suddenly... they didn't.

I would strongly caution anyone against taking financial advice on this basis.

I state in my video I don’t suggest trying to make money on watches, have a feeling a lot of people comment here but didn’t watch the video. And of course people have to look at the past to make predictions on the future. Does not always prove true but historically if something happens over and over it will probably happen again. Your safer with Rolex than any other watch brand as far as value retention. Not the main reason I like Rolex but it’s a nice secondary biproduct to get out for what I got in if need be.

You say "historically if something happens over and over it will probably happen again." See asset bubbles.

I’m not thinking of it as an asset I’m thinking nh of it as a collectible peice of art that’s limited as time goes on. You put faith in everything you do in life. You drive a car every day because every single day you drive you don’t flip over your car and die. That’s like stopping driving one day because of an irrational fear that your going to flip your car when day after day for 30 years you have driven safe. Some things hold value. Rolex holds value and that jsut is what it is. The stock market or anything else could crash too, or you could go to the bank one day and they said they went bankrupt and have none of your money.

  1. It is an asset like anything else you own. Specifically, a tangible asset if you want to be technical.

  2. Like any other asset its value may go up or down. So it's fine to say "historically, Rolexes have held their value." Not credible to say "Rolexes hold their value" let alone "Rolexes will hold their value".

  3. Like you say, the Rolex market can crash, just like any other market.

  4. Using the driving analogy, your logic is "I haven't ever been killed in a car crash so far, so I will never be killed in a car crash in future and that's why I drive"

I’ll change my video title to “watches that will most likely but not 100% go up in value since for the last 80 years similar watches have gone up in value”

Or "Watches I think will increase in value". Still fits on two lines. Fancy that!

I watched the entire video. I think it's clear what I think of this sort of speculation in the watch industry. However, I would say it really does not matter what I think; it's a fact of life right now.

You did a good job of stating that it was just your opinion. Kudos to you, and I thought you came off pretty genuine on camera. You are also one of the few people I've seen who can make a Panerai seem normal size lol
