Support your local AD Part 2- Revue Thommen

I made a post about the importance of supporting your local AD here https://www.watchcrunch.com/WatchYourIntruder/posts/support-your-local-ad-before-his-gone-26342. This is a follow up.

One of the pros of my local AD is his section of pre loved watches. There you can find vintage or recent discontinued watches and everything in between. The watches can be from his own inventory, trade ins or watches sold on commision. I quite frequently approach this cabinet in the store to see what to be found.

My latest find is this Revue Thommen Cricket from the late 80s (probably). I think the Cricket is more known by the name Vulcain as the Presidents Watch. Through a merge in the 60s Thommen produced these watches. The name Revue Thommen was introduced as late as 1987. Since 2001 the name has been licensed to others producing watches under the name.

The watch itself is a strange creature. A very nice dresswatch in gold and silver with an alarm function. A delicate pattern in the inner circle surrounded by a railroad track like ring. The outer ring in silver have gold applied indices. Nothing solid, all gold part are plated. The lugs looks rather inspired by the late 50s than the 80s. Overall a nice package IMO.

Nice pickup there. The brand is now back under family ownership again after the licensing agreement with Grovana finished up.

Andreas Thommen is now in charge of the family business and has plans to launch a number of new collections. Looking forward to seeing what they have installed. A re-edition of that would be very nice 👍

Thank you. Yes, it will be exciting to see what he/they come up with when they put the brand to life again.

Oh that is such a classy watch Per! 👌

I try hard to maintain a reasonable level of good taste, but there is a side of me that loves the bling and sparkle too much 😁

A beautiful watch! Doesn't look 80s at all to me? Definitely a 50s or 60s vibe going on. Lovely..

Thanks! For me it definitely gives a vibe from the 50s. That is probably why I found it so appealing.

Great pickup!

If it is from the 80”s, then its interesting to see ‘vintage’ inspired designs were a ‘thing’ back then. There’s a lot of emphasis on today’s watch scene being too vintage inspired in their designs. There’s a reason: they sell and people want them

I don’t know where they took their inspiration from. Haven’t found any similar from Thommen or Vulcain catalogue. Maybe just their idea of a pretty watch.

Yes, very possibly.

The markings on the alarm sector track adds a great (and useful) detail
